While the NFL hasn't had much attention as the FCS on AGS (and may never will be), here is the 2024 edition of the AGS NFL thread.

Turf has had its share of issues and problems the more stadiums use it, so...

Right - just skip the farcical preseason games that don't include 90% or more of the week 1 starters in the league.

He's right about it being dumbed down but he's got it backwards that it starts at the NFL level and goes down to college and HS. It started in HS and college and has made it's way to the NFL. Like he said college's used to be programs that developed players but now college is all about talent and playing right away or kids transfer. That's translated to the NFL because these guys are coming out of college with less development so now NFL teams have had to dumb it down to use the players they are getting. NIL, the transfer portal and the mentality for instant gratification is the cause. Kids don't want to develop, they don't want to pay their dues they don't want to earn it, they want it right away and if they don't get it they go where they will.

Trey Lance is a prime example of not developing enough in college. Dude played basically one year of HS and only 17 games for an FCS program that had already won 7 of the last 8 titles before he got there. He jumped to the NFL because of how high his stock was and got picked 3rd. He’s going to go down as arguably the biggest bust in NFL history because of what the 49ers gave up for him. Now he’s throwing 5 interceptions in a preseason game for the Cowboys. He needed far more development in college and never got it, he’s looked like a deer in the headlights in the NFL. At least he got $35 million from his rookie deal, might be the last pay day he gets in the NFL though.

Plenty of other examples of guys needing more reps in college before jumping to the NFL. The jury is still out on Anthony Richardson, but he could’ve definitely used an extra year in college.

I agree but you can't turn down that money. You could blow out a knee or suffer some other injury and never get the opportunity again. The NFL should be telling these guys to stay in college another year.

I’m hoping NIL can keep some of these guys in college longer. Look at what tons of college experience has done for Brock Purdy, guy walked into the league and looked like a veteran.

With baseball season done for me, my other sideline becomes following the fortunes of the Iggles. They finally put together a solid all-around game versus the NYG, but not sure that is saying much. I was impressed with Barkley's performance. No question he really upgrades the offense. If the receivers can return to health, the offense should be tough to stop. Defense is showing signs of improvement, though again, it was the Giants. This weeks game versus Bengals should be more of decent barometer on how well one can expect the future to flow.

Darnold looked like Linda Blair as he got his head turned around on a uncalled facemask in the end zone. The tackler even grabbed his own helmet knowing he had done it. The announcer said, "What the hell?" as he watched it on replay. Would the Viking have won, down eight? Probably not. But the official was standing right there and we know how the NFL protects certain QBs. He must be a WNBA official to miss that.

There have been a hell of a lot of bad or "missed" calls this year. Sure seems like some fishy officiating going on in a lot of these games. I wonder how the NFL can explain some of these away. Just not a great look now that there is a ton of gambling involved.

Sometimes bordering on the HBCU conference officials we complain about when they are assigned to work playoff games. At least those officials just can't keep up with the speed of the game. The NFL officials seem to have an agenda at times (e.g., the Chiefs are 8-0 but might well be 4-4 with proper officiating).

The Philly sports talk radio is going off the deep end, already. The playoffs start this week and rather than debate the merits/strengths/weaknesses/match-ups, etc., the issue is whether HC Sirianni should be kept?!! I (as well as most) have questioned Sirianni's decisions at times. That's what fans do. But the guy has won 50 games in four seasons! Yes, there were some stinkers, like last year's season-ending implosion; but, the week of the start of the post-season the focus will be on whether the winningest head coach in Eagles history (in four seasons) should be let go after the season, unless they get to the NFC championship game?! I could understand it if there weren't matters to discuss regarding this week's game. But, I guess that's what one comes to expect from Philly sports broadcasters/writers. They gotta always 'stir the pot' and create issues that don't presently exist. Yes, if the "Iggles" implode again, then, it's appropriate to evaluate whether someone else is needed to get a really good team over the final hurdle; but, not leading up into the first week of the playoffs. smh.
