Was just reading an article on Boston.com with quotes from the former Dolphin, he said this.

"I don't think the Giants have anything to play for," he says. "The Giants have already clinched as much as they are going to clinch. I'm not even sure they'll play the regulars. What's the purpose? Now, the Patriots are going to play the regulars and I don't blame them. They're going to tie an incredible team record. It's the most revered record in the history of team sports. They are going to pour it on as much as they can in the first half.

Now I dont wanna come off as a jackass here, but, the Patriots would become the thid team to perform a regular season undefeated, but I dont think you can consier it tying a record. The Dolphins played 14 games and was it the Bears in the 30s who won a 13 game regular season?

The three teams of course would be the only ones to finish the regular season undefeated, but just as the Dolphins season one upped the Bears, the Patriots would the Dolphins as well with the two extra wins....

They only 'one-up' the Dolphins if they come up with a better ritual than the drinking of champagne. I mean, champagne? That's what everybody drinks on NYE :p

Furthermore, who cares about the regular season. Staying undefeated (or should I say, 'unbeaten'? ;)) in the post-season is worth a lot more!

An undefeated season doesn't mean jack if you don't win the superbowl. It's a good accomplishment but rings fairly hollow if you don't win it all. Trust me it has happened to the Griz twice and I wouldn't trade those seasons for out championship seasons if I was getting a 10 for 1 deal. If you can combine the undefeated season with the superbowl then it is really something special. If not it doesn't mean that much.

The all-time record for winning pct in a season is 1.000
The Patriots can tie that record with a win.

They can set a record for most regular season wins at 16.

But it don't mean a thing if you don't get that ring.

Most people remember the 1998 Yankees because the won the WS. But they forget the 2001 Mariners who won a record 116 regular season games but couldn't even get to the WS...

It doesn't matter how many games are played to be undefeated. Undefeated is undefeated. It's a great accomplishment for the few teams, including the Patriots, who have pulled it off.
