Princeton up 7 - 0 at the end of the 1st quarter (as with all Lafayette games, it is on tv where I live).

This honestly doesn't suprise me. I think Lafayette truly was a flash in the pan and their offense is terrible. I really believe it's Lehigh and everyone else in the PL. I also nominate Bucknell, losing 24-0 to Cornell, as a real threat to go 0-11.

From my observation though it has mostly been mistakes by Lafayette so far as the primary difference in this game (not that Princeton has not capitalized on them). Lafayette may still come back in this one.

FG for Princeton as time is running out in the half, Princeton is up 20 - 0.

I'm gonna miss the princeton helmet... it was quite distinctive, as opposed to the UD helmet which a bunch of posters use here

Of course....and you were proven right by this game. Gimme a break! I guess blowing a mid 4th quarter lead doesnt prove anything though?

I read Barton's diary from the game--great coverage Chuck. It provided a good flavor of the game's ebb and flow.
As for the "catch" you criticize being awarded to Princeton that lead to the last field goal, I was watching on TV and they replayed it several times and even the Lafayette announcers agreed it probably WAS a good catch. The official had the best view--was right in position. The receiver definitely had stretched his arms out but when the ball came into his hands his one hand was UNDER the ball when he caught it--so it wasn't a trap. Although I agree when first viewed it was questionable.
However, 'things' tend to even out, anyway. The last Lafayette touchdown catch was also 'questionable'. The receiver had his right foot in the air, but his left knee appeared to hit the ground out of bounds before the right foot came down in bounds. Hell of a catch, but still very close as to which appendage came down first.
Exciting ending. The key, IMO, was Princeton able to take the game by the throat with an amazing 9:30 min drive in the fourth quarter that lead to the fg.

That drive was the talk of the press, believe you me. I really thought Lafayette was going to pull it out, though. All they needed was one stop and they couldn't get it. As impressive as the 9 minute drive was, those last 3 first downs, with all the momentum on Lafayette's side, was really impressive - to me that was the key.
