Congratulations to the Rhode Island Rams. They are in the ESPN Top 25 Coaches poll for the 1st time since 1998. Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin receives votes in the poll. The Southland has come a long way.

Thanks for the recognition. It's been a long road since Harrick pulled his disappearing act and then got us an NCAA sanction. Then we hire a high school coach who lasts all of two seasons and had about 10 wins in 2 years. Baron came in and has had a ton of obstacles to hurdle over. But the program looked good last season and looks solid this year. Hopefully this continues.

First time since Lamar Odom led them to the A-10 title I believe

SHSU has had votes since early Dec. in the AP poll and this is our first appearance in the coaches' poll. It's been a great season for the Kats!

We're very excited around here. Hopefully, we'll win when conference play starts. OOC games against San Diego St and Loyola Marymount on the road plus Central Florida at home remain...

Didn't URI make the Elite 8 in 1998?

Yes we did. Lost by 2 points to Stanford in the last seconds. Lamar Odom played in 1998-1999 to lead us to the A-10 Championship. We went out of the NCAA tourney in the first round that season.

The A-10 does look to be strong this season. I very much look forward to conference play.

I still remember URI's dramatic win over my Owls in the A-10 tourney that year. URI, if i remember correctly, was squarely on the bubble and had they lost would have gone to the NIT.

Also, wasn't there questions surrounding Harrick's time there as well?

Good memory. Yes, it was a Lamar Odom jumper at the buzzer which was the difference between the NCAA and the NIT. I always felt if we had gone to the NIT that year that we might have won the whole thing. But the NCAA tourney is what you play for.

As for Harrick, there were questions when he came in, while he was here and after he left. Controversy was his middle name and money was his God.
