View Full Version : FBS Corrupt?

Once again the FBS doesn't fail to prove how over-rated it really is. Because of the pressure to succeed and win, teams in the FBS are constantly having to cut corners to field a complete team of great athletes. The Florida State Seminoles football team is just another representation of how corrupt the FBS has become. The FBS reminds me of another system that is sick and in need of medical attention, the U.S. government! There's way too much money and special interests in the FBS system.

I agree 100%, not to mention that the BCS just about eliminates certain conferences from BCS Bowls. Given the amount of money involved with these games, I am surprised that a suit hasn't been filed. How do you eliminate teams such as Hawaii, given a perfect record, from playing in the "big money" bowl based only on numerous subjective criteria especially in light of the fact that the other divisions hold play offs. The systems opens the door to corruption.

Let's not kid ourselves here, there is corruption in all levels of NCAA sports, it may not be as blatant as the FSU debacle going on, but I can guarantee that corruption occurs almost everywhere

Hawa'i is playing in the Sugar Bowl. It has a $17,000,000 payout, IIRC.

Yes, they deserve a shot at the MNC, but they did get a big money bowl.

I agree, some things won't see the light of day because they happen at schools out of the BCS spotlight.

$17mil is indeed a lot of money, however, there is a great deal of money differential between the sugar and the championship game. The very fact that they are excluded from the championship game based on subjective criteria was the only point I was trying to make.

Where there is money to be made and power to be had, corruption will always follow.

Some of the most crooked programs out there are in Division III, because they know they're not going to get caught.

There's scandal in FCS, too. There was a grade scandal at my school (Southern) in 2003-2004. I'm sure it affected the football program. BCS schools dominate the media coverage, so it's only natural that when a bomb drops they get exposed big time.

The bowls and their sponsors are WAAAAYYY to far along in turning FBS into a business to step back and go to a playoff system. I think last year there were around 30-35 bowl games, most pretty well attended. There is no way they would let all those facilities sit idle while 16 teams played at college stadiums. It's too bad, because we're going to be hearing about 4-5 teams a year making their own case for why their team is the true #1. I don't know if the bowl system is corrupt, or rather just a business.
FBS has always had scandals, from Reggie Bush, to Danny Ford/Clemson to Bobby Bowden and the Miami (FL) programs of the '80's. I think it's probably inherent in most football divisions, but we generally fly under the radar.

17 million that goes to the WAC conference.

The WAC then decides how they want to distribute it to the conference schools.

They can still have the other scrimages. There are 32 bowl games. A 16 team play off would account for a total of 15 bowl games that would not be available to the other schools. Since the 16 teams would be in a bowl regardless, 7 bowl games or 14 "bottom" teams would be affected. I hope I did my math right, that means aproxametly 42% of the FBS would still go to a bowl.
