Lets start off with a bit for those who think New England lacks a running game that might be needed to win in January.

Mike Reiss (http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/reiss_pieces/2007/12/running_game_in.html)over at Boston.com had this today....

4.0 -- The number of yards per carry the Patriots are averaging this season, gaining a total of 1,609 rushing yards on 400 attempts. The total includes quarterback kneeldowns at the end of games.

1 -- The number of times in the last 20 years that the Patriots have averaged 4.0 yards per carry or better in a season (2004, 4.1).

47.5 -- The percentage of Patriots rushing attempts that have gained four or more yards this season, the highest total in the NFL.

4.21 -- The average number of yards per carry that Laurence Maroney has gained in his career (1378 yards on 327 attempts).

4.22 -- The Patriots’ individual franchise record for most yards per carry with the team, achieved by Corey Dillon (3180 yards on 753 carries from 2004-06) and Craig James (2469 yards on 585 carries from 1984-88).

4 -- The number of games this season in which the Patriots have had a 100-yard rusher.

3 -- The total number of games in which the Patriots had a 100-yard rusher over the previous two seasons combined (2005-06).

To add to that:

Who was the Pats' running back when they won in '01 and '03? None other than the great Antowain Smith.

We're fine.

Actually Dillon was the back in 2004. Smith was the back in 2001 and 2003, but still fair point.

Imagine what will happen if NE gets McFadden in this year's draft (SF's draft pick) and the rest of the team returns.

they wont pay top 5 money for a RB, but ya it would be great, but they will probbaly draft Howie Longs son....Chris? cant remember his first name, or they will trade down in the 1st round.

I was thinking, what would they need a RB for with Maroney on the roster, but I guess it worked for Minnesota...

Maroney isnt viewed as an every down back, thats why they got Sammy Morris.... They dont need McFadden, but for a team that values RBs highly its a no brainer to take him even with a young stud on the roster, but not the Patriots..... if they draft high its gonna be a OL or DL

Brady with his 47th TD pass and Moss with his 21st TD reception.

Brady needs 2 to tie the NFL record and Moss needs 1 to tie the NFL record.

I won't say they can't run (they generally don't need to), but they are playing Miami, who is last in the league for rush defense...

The Patriots tie their own NFL record with their 18th consecutive regular season win.

The Patriots also become the first team ever to have a 15-0 regular season record.

Brady and Moss both fall 1 TD short this week of tying NFL records for TDs and the Pats fall 6 points short of tying the NFL record for points in a season. All three marks should be met or exceeded in the first half next Saturday in New Jersey...

Not a Patriots fan by any means...however, they are truly having one of the all-time great seasons in NFL history.

New England has outscored teams 551 to 239 through 15 games this season. That is a difference of 312 points, an average differential of 20.8 points/game; not sure of the record for point differential.

bwa ha. I only expected the score because I figured they'd put in back-ups pretty quickly, oh well, starters scoring that will do.

Therefore, as long as New England doesn't lose to the Giants by 20, they will have this record.
