Very intriguing...Southern finished 3rd in the voting for SBN national champion, while the two SWAC championship game participants finished 7th and 8th in the world of black college football. How's that make sense?

This poll can be broken down by: 1) When you lose; 2) who you lose to (in terms of HBCUs); and 3) overall record.
I imagine Jackson State was penalized heavily for losing one more game than southern to Delta State (DII). I'm assuming that's where overall record would come into play..A major college comparison would be Georgia being ranked over Tennessee.

Tuskegee needed overtime to beat Alabama State. A good win for a D2 school, but it was their only test against an FCS team and they barely beat a team that finished 4-5 in the SWAC.

I said a few...and I am sure Grambling is not the only one. Apparently a few schools put some weight into the HBCU national championship...
Then again, the HBCUs that do, are no different than the FBS schools that put weight into their similar "mythical" championship...

Where are the few? Weight? If weight means another trophy for the case, then, sure. Weight meaning money for it? Obviously GSU does, but where are the others? You put it out there, now prove it.
PS- ...and if they do put weight into it, why is it any concern of yours, or anybody who has nothing to do with that individual school?

Which is why I don't see why people have such a big problem with it. Any team that receives the honor, certainly isn't about to give it back. I liken it to the mid-major champion in FCS. It's decided by writers, and is prestigious among those circles.
Elite Division II schools have been competitive with FCS schools in the past and will continue to be, ie North Dakota over NIU (2006); and Delta State over JSU (2007).
Another parallel: if you had to rank Michigan and Appalachian State in a poll, which would you rank higher; if their records are similar?
Do you think Appalachian State would finish second or third in the Big Ten?
Think about it.

So if SCSU finally breaks through, and wins the MEAC (they certainly have the talent); and wins the SBN title, are you going to give that trophy back as a matter of principle?
Sidebar: I see it as similar to BCS bowl trophies. You're not the national champion; but you have a championship trophy and being recognized for your successful season. I don't think any player would give back their ring.

I didn't even know there was a real trophy for this....if SCSU wins it, we will graciously accept....but that aint what our boys are in winter workouts striving for,.....thats not what they are in the weight room working for.....the SBN award is one of those things that if you win it, its nice....if not, whatever...
if SCSU went 9-2 and lost the SBN championship to say tuskegee, but went deep in the playoffs I wouldn't lose any sleep.
I also hold a conference championship in higher regard than the SBN...at least in the conference, the championship is decided among like universities....not some collaboration of D-2 and 1-AA schools....
no disrespect to tuskegee....they are a great program....but them beating freaking concordia college means nothing to me....but because they beat them and we lose to a #15 ranked DSU by 1 point makes them more deserving of the award?
what is a concordia anyway.
tuskegee would not beat SCSU, DSU, or Norfolk most likely.
They also would not beat Grambling, Southern, or jackson most likely...
but those teams play a much tougher schedule..which does not include CONCORDIA...thats why I look at any award that does not take that into consideration with very little regard....for that award to basically say that "we think that skegee is the best BCF program" is like saying hawaii is the best 1-A program because they went undefeated....which is crazy
like I said earlier...if that award is important to you, then thats cool....I am not judging anyone for liking that award....I just know that SCSU, its football prgram, and its fans, strive for higher awards than the SBN.....

Why would that have anything to do it with? SWAC teams would probably go on the road in the playoffs and outside of a team like Jackson State, do they really travel well? Seems like even "Gramblingham" was more like "ComegyLand" by a large margin...
I do not think the SWAC, outside of bringing some fun matchups with some schools that have some prestige in their back pocket, would bring a lot to the table. No increased exposure, no increased attendance, etc.
