I like the selection of Bell. Many people don't know his name but he is one of the best in the FCS. If an All-America team doesn't have him on the 1st or 2nd team then it is not a true team.
Putting Foster, Santos, Lynch, Brown, Cuff, Barden, Smith, Biermann, Johnston, Rinehart, and Carvalho are picks that seem to be no brainers.

Each different All-American list named so far has mentioned a different kicker. I'm just glad Carpenter was recognized by one list, he had a great season (and career) for the Griz.

I think a case can be made for a few other QB's to be on this list (Edwards, Foster, and Flacco to name a few). Not a bad year at the QB position this year.
Which position do you think had the most depth in the FCS this year?

Oh, I didn't see Foster listed as a running back on the list. That's interesting that he is listed as a RB. Is he a RB or a QB? My thoughts are with the style of offense that GSU runs, he's more of a RB than a QB (I guess that's what the AP thought as well).

He plays QB but is more of a RB.
Deepest position has to be either DB, QB, or OL. There are a lot of good ones at those positions this year. There will be All-America caliber players on the OL and at QB who will probably get snubbed by the AFCA, AP, TSN, or Walter Camp. The NCAA lists those 4 as the ones you have to make to be a concensus all-american.

You'll have to see next week if they're on the CSN teams. As for NCAA-recognized media outlets, what are you talking about?? Media guidelines for all outlets are posted on the NCAA website, they don't specify "preferred media" over another.

I kept looking at ncaa.org stats and wondered why they never listed the SIU punter. Ravanesi averaged 45.8 yds/punt which would have placed him second nationally if it was recognized. I finally figured it out. You have to average 3.6 punts/game to make the list. We just didn't punt enough.

8:43 a.m., Dec. 19, 2006--University of Delaware senior tight end Ben Patrick is a consensus NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision All-America with the announcement this week that he has been selected to the first team by the Sports Network. Patrick earlier was named first team All-America by the Walter Camp Foundation, the American Football Coaches Association and the Associated Press.

I mean that SIDs have said before that if those 4 have their player that they can "officially" say he was a concensus pick. Those are the 4 that seem to matter MOSt but CSN, Collegesportsreport, and Don Hansen all matter as well. If any of the others don't have a player then we can still say he is a concensus pick. If you get all 7 then WOW you REALLY are EXTRA CONCENSUS, if that is possible? lol

That is what I meant. SIDs say you are a concensus pick if you get those 4. The others are a bonus. SIDs, media, and coaches are all that is needed to be considered concensus.
CSN-info
December 12th, 2007, 11:33 PM
SIDs can say whatever they want to make their players look good - they "officially" can say that on of their players is a consensus all-American. But saying this is somehow sanctioned by the NCAA is something different. There is no NCAA "all-America list" - they are picked by different coaches/media/other organizations.
If a SID claims it's "consensus", the SID can claim it but he's wrong. There is no concept of a "bonus". It's about promoting their players.

True but according to NCAA rules in the FBS the AP, AFCA, and Walter Camp are 4 of the ones used to "legally" say it. The FWAA is like the TSN list because it is both writers or SIDs. I feel it is good to say a player is an All-American anytime you can. When you include the CSN, Don Hansen, and Collegesportsreport list that is a good thing. Just saying that 4 or 5 is enough to say concensus. When you get up to 7 or more teams than it is really getting to be a lot. To me you don't need more than 5 teams that are legit. 4 is perfect but 5 is good. The CSN team is very good. Not knocking it. Just saying that just one more is needed before SIDs start saying "concensus". Personally, I look at the CSN teams and save them just like I do the other 4.

Blake Martin was a Preseason All-American and he lived up to it in 2007. This guy has been a solid TE at SHSU his whole career. Corey Roberts before him was an All-American. Overall I think Martin is a better TE with MUCH better hands and speed.

"Consensus All-America Teams The NCAA compiles consensus all-America teams in the sports of Division I-FBS football and Division I men’s basketball. Currently in football, the five teams used to compile the consensus team are from the Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association, the Football Writers Association of America, The Sporting News and the Walter Camp Foundation."
http://www.ncaa.org/stats/2007-08_stats_policies.pdf
SIDs are already referring to several players as "consensus" AAs and the two major lists have not been announced yet. If you want to bastardize FBS stuff for FCS (which many who are envious of FBS tend to do) then a more appropriate "consensus five" list is:
American Football Coaches Association
College Sporting News
The Sports Network
Walter Camp Foundation
Associated Press
Also, don't lump Dopke and Hansen etc. in with CSN please. xreadx :) xpeacex

The only reason I listed just those 4 are because SIDs use those 4 as the guidelines. What is wrong with Dopke and Hansen? I am sure the SME Network will do an All-America team as well. There are so many outlets.
As I said, I do read and save your teams and I don't save Hansen and Dopke.
How come your postseason teams aren't done like your preseason teams? In the preseason you do a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd team and then in the postseason you do one team of 50 players.

I quite because you got mad over something that was very petty. Telling someone who wrote an article and never signed a legal contract, that they couldn't use it for another outlet, which does not rival CSN at all. You tried getting me on the phone to talk about it and I wouldn't so you gave up and we never talked about it again. I have no hidden agendas. I was just stating what SIDs have said in their releases. They use those four as the ones to name someone a concensus pick. If they included CSN then I would have included it. As I said I personally look at the CSN teams and so does everyone else. They should include CSN to make it concensus.
Why do you have a beef with Dopke and Hansen? You don't want to be lumped in with them? Are they not good in your eyes? Any media recognition is good. Why would you put down those?
CSN has great quality and quantity. If it was better than TSN, why did you want that job and why did Mr. C. leave? You and him wanted to move to what you felt was a better media outlet. You would have been good for the job, Ralph. Had you not had health issues you might have gotten it. Mr. C is very good at what he does and so are you. No reason to get bent out of shape. If you are the best people will say it. Nobody needs to pat themself on the back. Let others do it for you. People say you are good, no need for you to come out and say it. Sounds like bragging when you say you are good but it sounds like a compliment when others say it.

No hidden agendas here. I personally feel the CSN teams are ones that should be included to say a player is a concensus pick but the SIDs don't. If they would include CSN then I would have said 2 more media outlets to go. To clarify, I meant one more media outlet left for players to be able to say they are a concensus pick. Ralph wants to say that CSN should be added so since Hansen has been around longer we will add them and Dopke as well. The Sports Xchange does a team so we will add that then. If you add one new outlet to the fold you have to add the others. The 4 that schools recognize have been around the longest, I believe. That is just the way it goes. If CSN is around in 10 years, and I am sure it will be, SIDs will probably be adding it to the list of ones needed to make a player a concensus selection.

3.6 punts/game is excessive I think, none of the punters on the good teams are eligible because of this. Mike Dragosavich for NDSU has only punted 57 times in the last 2 years combined (22 games) with an average of 45.8 yds.

I never slammed CSN as I have said before it does a good job. I don't begrudge CSN at all. I didn't mean to start an argument when I said what I did. Not my fault that SIDs haven't listed CSN as part of the concensus group, they should. I just stated that SIDs use those 4 to say a player is a concensus pick usually. Didn't mean to slight CSN. Just saying that you posted you guys have the best quality and quantity, calling yourself the best IMO. I am just saying that others should say that and many do. No reason to say it about yourself.
You are new? How come you don't use your name? Which writer are you? I was under the impression that you were Ralph. I know Ralph posts on here. I thought he was you, Syntaxx Error, and another one. If Ralph wants to talk I will. I just hope he is feeling better. I heard about what happened and as a human being I hate to see that. Hopefully Ralph will be up to full speed soon. Had he been healthy he would probably be the TSN writer right now.

I didn't mean to start an argument when I said what I did. There is no consensus list among FCS SIDs and there's no reason to get personal. CSN doesn't boast, we produce. If you want to speak with Ralph or Coulson email CSN or Sports Network.

Someone showed a release that had their playing being concensus due to getting those 4. I don't know why this argument started over it. I was just saying what I have seen most SIDs do. If you see someone include CSN, Hansen, Dopke, etc. then let me know if I haven't posted that those were included and I will. TSN, CSN, Dopke, and Hansen are all still coming out over the next few weeks. I look forward to seeing ALL of the lists.
Which writer are you? Are you Dowd or Deriso or who?
