In case some of you don't know, Nicholls went on the road a couple of weeks ago and beat Incarnate Word. UIW had a very long home winning streak, maybe the longest in the FCS (?) up to that point. Saturday Nicholls beat Lamar and has won the Southland Conference's automatic bid to the playoffs. That is all.

Not sure what the criteria is for highlighting, but I think YSU and UIW should be highlighted yellow for being 1 pt apart. Just 2 points separating Delaware and Idaho.

I believe Montana State has the longest active home winning streak, which was extended to 26 games this weekend. I can't find a definitive source on that though.

Not as long as Montana States home winning streak, Ours is the longest in all of D1.

This week's top 25 article: https://thefcswedge.com/ags-poll/ags-poll-week-11-top-25-results-5/

A lot of strange movement in the 10-22 range this week I thought but there's some really tight point spreads in the rankings this week. Only 16 points separate #6 from #9, 25 points separate #15 from #18, and 15 points separate #19 from #23. In terms of playoff positioning if the AGS Poll is any guide I think Chattanooga is looking pretty good for a spot while Youngstown State and Incarnate Word might be in for a sweat hoping for some help this Saturday.

I should have said UIW HAD ONE of the longest (but I did put a question mark in my post). I certainly did not mean to slight my friends, the Bobcats.

The point is that UIW "HAD", but no more, because two weeks ago NICHOLLS, the SLC champions and auto qualifier, went to San Antonio and beat the Cardinals on their home field.

I hesitate to post this, because it will sound like complaining and I REALLY don't care, I'm j7st asking: what did voters see Saturday to convince them to switch nova and Albany? I got the argument for Albany, ad it REALLY doesn't matter for us because our situation is beat Delaware, get seed; lose, don't.

But, what we saw Saturday was:

Nova beats better team by more points than Albany beats bad team
Nova beats team by 23 that Albany beat by 7
Albany beats team by 18 that Nova beat by 35

I don't need to hear arguments for Albany ahead of Nova, i know them and don't disagree, just curious for the people who switched based on this week: why?

Good. Now do the STATS poll (UIW #20; Nicholls #29). Oh, maybe the Coaches Poll then, right (UIW #11; Nicholls #32T)?

Not saying that I don't agree that UIW above Nicholls...at all...is wrong. Just saying that you can probably stuff that insinuation of MVFC and UM/MSU bias or lack of attention.

I expect the 4th or 5th ranked teams from several of the top conferences would be at least 8-2 against Nicholl's and probably 9-1 against UIW's schedules. On the flip-side, I would expect those 2 teams to be no better than .500 if they played in the top-4 conferences. And I am a SOCON guy.

We could say that definitively (via transitive property xdrunkyx) if Davis beats Sac State in the Causeway Classic. That would push Davis to 4th in the standings and Ball Sac to 5th. The Hornets beat the Southland champ (Nicholls) by 14 on their field, making them 6th, at best. You could almost make the argument that NAU's 1 point loss AT Sac means they would beat the team that lost to them by 14 at home (Nicholls), so 7th might be accurate.

I'm just curious about the voting mass on here giving so much love to SIU over YSU?

Is it the W over a POS 4-6 MAC school?

The blowout W over the ASC team?

Moral victory in Brookings?

Hmmm.. 4-4 in the MVFC..

1-3 Against top 25 teams..

L by a lot at Youngstown..

Maybe homerism, but I'm not sure how the majority on here rank em' ahead of YSU, and some don't even have YSU in their top 25..

Just think SIU will probably be the last in, and YSU will be the 1st out of the playoffs..

Just an observation.. I [emoji3590] the Salukis..

So…maybe it’s not that Nicholls and/or UIW are underrated. FUBeAR can accept that.

Maybe, based on recent Playoff results, it’s also that The Big Sky Conference remains overrated. Because it seems Southland #1 would be no worse than Big Sky #2…based on this outcome.

Should we give that, apparently inconceivable, notion some ‘white boarding’ here … or nah?

So…maybe it’s not that Nicholls and/or UIW are underrated. FUBeAR can accept that.

Maybe, based on recent Playoff results, it’s also that The Big Sky Conference remains overrated. Because it seems Southland #1 would be no worse than Big Sky #2…based on this outcome.

Should we give that, apparently inconceivable, notion some ‘white boarding’ here … or nah?

xchinscratchx Last year SELA was better than this year, while Idaho is better this year than last, and the final AGS poll bore that out with the 2 being separated by a mere 11 points (https://thefcswedge.com/ags-poll/ags-poll-week-12-top-25-results-4/). SELA won everyone's favorite method of awarding homefield for Round 1, the bidding war, and then won the game by the "home field advantage margin of error". We also all know UIW was MUCH better last year than this year.

It's almost like 2023 and 2022 were two completely different seasons and Mr. Braggadocious (SeattleCat) was talking about THIS YEAR'S TEAMS. MSUBobcat can accept that.

You can die on your hill when the Semis is all Big Sky & MVFC teams, And if you actually watched the Sac/Nicholls game you would know it was never in doubt who was the most talented team and who would win 99 out 100 times. Watch the games before you spout your crap stats.

Every team is just as good or just as bad as they were the first game of the season, right?
Some teams don't match up better with other teams who play a certain style, right?
Obviously these are true and cannot be disputed.
Nicholls also lost to 4-6 SEMO the week before they beat UIW. It's going to be tough for any SLC team outside of UIW to get love in the polls when, as a group, the rest of the SLC teams put up a grand total of 1 OOC win against a D1 team. This was a bad year for the SLC - if you look at each team's entire body of work only UIW deserves consideration for the top 25 IMO and even that's iffy.

Neither of those teams would finish better than 6th in the big sky. Nichols got pounded by the 4th place big sky team.
Speaking of spouting…

JEEZ - Imagine how the carnage would be described if SacSt had been able to get a 10 point lead on Nicholls before they were ready to go to the start of the 4th quarter.

LOL - SeattleCat obviously got an A+ in BR101. Heck, s/he may have even majored in it. Was that major part of the Communications School or the Psychology Department?

Wow - so, you’re saying Nicholls is a REALLY bad Team, huh?

So what does that say about Big Sky #4 SacState…who was barely able to get past a 1 score lead on Nicholls almost into the 4th quarter?

The Hornets probably aren’t total garbage like all of the Southland Teams (except maybe UIW), but there’s no way a 3 FCS Losses Team that played lowly Southland Nicholls that close could be in contention for an At-Large bid, is there?

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Nicholls lost because they got blown out in the 4th quarter.

Suggesting the game was close right before it became a blowout is something, though.

Every blowout is close before it turns into a blowout.

Since everyone is so biased against the powerhouse that is this year's Southland, where do YOU think UIW and Nicholls be appropriately ranked?

i ranked em
uiw-10th
nicholls-23

if uiw plays the freshman qb

they throw the aggie grad transfer back in at qb, I’ll drop em down

i dont even like either school, but they both deserve to be in the playoffs.

Nicholls lost because they got blown out in the 4th quarter.

Suggesting the game was close right before it became a blowout is something, though.

Every blowout is close before it turns into a blowout.
* A 2 score game is NOT a blowout, even if it’s a Big Sky Team defeating a Team from another conference
* If we’re going to ‘count’ the 4th quarter scores which increased SacState’s lead, we can’t, in fairness, call Nicholls’ 4th quarter scores “garbage”
* Suggesting that a game that was not clearly decided until ~10 minutes remained to play was a “pounding” is just so much bluster

…and in other, MUCH MORE MEANINGFUL NEWS…

The Southland’s 2nd best Team beat the Big Sky’s 3rd best Team in the most recent FCS Playoffs.

And … we should also not forget that the Southland’s #1 Team also beat the Big Sky’s #1 Team in the most recent FCS Playoffs.

And…by gosh… while we’re remembering not to forget. Let’s not forget that 1 of those Southland Teams then lost to a SoCon Team the next week and the other Southland Team … the one that beat Big Sky #1 was an eyelash away from losing to SoCon #2 the week before.

So, other than pure braggadocio and bluster, we have no (good) evidence-based reason to crow that either of the 2 best Southland Teams in 2023 would not finish any better than 6th in the Big Sky.

That was FUBeAR’s primary point.

(Let the blustering, braggadocious retorts commence)

The (mis)characterization of the SacSt/Nicholls game as a “pounding” and now a “blowout” was really just a humorous observation…that has since become even more humorous.

One game isn't a season,...but I've been questioning NCCU rank for a while. That they broke into the top 10 was getting on the ridiculous side. I thought they were only a #20+ team considering their SOS. Guess I was probably correct. I still ranked them but they are now hanging on by their fingertips.

An upgrade in a home at home on the regular season schedule would be nice. I'd say FU is a tad bit better than Bobby Morris..

Being 29-8 in playoffs is ok. Unfortunately, one loss was to FU. I was in Germany that year. YSU was still wet behind the ears then. The stat I hate is 4-4 in national championship games .500

Yeah - Feelin’ ya - 1-2 in National Championship games is embarrassing for this 2k student private school. We expect to get there more often and we expect to win them when we do. Frickin’ GaSou’s Tracy Ham turned into Tom Brady after completing about 7 passes all season and throws a dart right thru FUBeAR’s heart and into an end zone in Idaho as the clock was running out to keep that record from being 2-1…and having a 1-legged Walter Payton Award winner didn’t help against the Griz … so close to 3-0 in Natty’s..,but 1-2 it is…sadly.

And, yeah, the Paladins don’t have quite as strong of a record in our 38 Playoff Games as YSU does in their 37. Maybe we can improve that this season.

Thanks for the well-wishes…but YSU still has a shot at the Playoffs, don’t they? FUBeAR thinks they were right there in some of the Field ‘modeling’ he’s done. No?

No?I don't get why some feel private school is a disadvantage for athletics.. I look at it like high school football. The private schools dominate state championships.. hell, your funding and athletic budget is probably better than most large 1FCS universities. Strange all FUs playoff appearances and YSUs we've only met once. Those GSU teams scuffed up the Guins we're 1-1 against them. Marshall and Appy state also got us. Back in the day, we had to beat Marshall with home field advantage for 1 of the NCs lost 1 there to the Herd also.

Strange most of our playoff/championship losses are to move on 1BCS teams now.

The Guins to make the playoffs will need help.. in conference need NDSU and ISU R to win. The Guins need a good convincing W in Murray. I'm hopeful this will happen, but YSU has to be the worst MVFC in the League Road team in history.

Plus, as I stated above, SIU is getting much love over the Guins even in this forum. They should roll to 7-4.. and IF both teams are 7-4, I feel both team won't go in they'll take SIU as last in and YSU 1st out.

I'm not counting on a playoff spot, but hopeful.
