The list has not come out yet but I have been able to get a partial list of some players that some insiders tell me are invited.

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tenn State
DE Brian Johnston, Gardner-Webb
OT Demetrius Bell, NW State
QB Joe Flacco, Delaware
WR Jerome Simpson, Coastal Carolina
FB Jerome Felton, Furman
OT Chad Rinehart, UNI

There are normally 25-35 players from the FCS invited. Anyone have inside information on other players?

I call BS if ASU OL Kerry Brown isn't invited.

Not that I really have any insight as to who is invited - seems like it's a good ol' boy network amongst the agents and scouts sometimes, though.

Chad Rinehart is very good and should at least get a look.

Though Justin Surrency didn't get too far. Sigh. :(

There were about 5 players from Hampton invited last year.....Expect Kendal Langford to be invited and, perhaps, Marcus Dixon, also.

I think they both blew it with their poor showings this year.

I would imagine Lynch would be invited. Does anyone know if he has any real speed. He's got a nose for the football but I've never seen him run anyone down.

"A select few have not been forced to give up the dream quite yet, though. At this early stage in the draft process there seems to be more legitimate small-school prospects in the 2008 class than any other year in recent history. The following is a look at the cream of that crop:

1. Joseph Flacco, QB, Delaware (6-foot-6, 236 pounds, 5.00 40-yard dash) Biggest strength: Prototypical size/arm Biggest weakness: Forcing throws NFL comparison: Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers Projected round: Second/third

I have recently heard Kerry Brown is going to the combine and that Dexter Jackson has a chance to go. It will be interesting to see if he does. I heard Lynch was 50/50 from people. It would be nice to see him there as well.

I think Flacco will be good but I don't see him as the top small schooler. If he is the first taken that means early 2nd round, more than likely. He seems to be a developmental version of Big Ben. I think 3rd-4th round is more where he ends up and in 2-4 years he is getting solid playing time.

I agree, Lynch gets in the right place at the right time. But I too would question whether he'd be able to use that overcome his lack of speed and to make it in the NFL - heck, even with the big win over Michigan, one thing that people don't talk about is Lynch being rundown from behind on that play by the Michigan kicker. The WR's in the NFL tend to be a little faster. xpeacex

Hey, it wasn't smack, and I think Lynch has all the instincts to be an NFL safety. But legitimately, you have to question if he has enough speed to play the position. His headiness will help there because he won't need as much speed to get to the right spot since he'll already be there, but unless Michigan is recruiting speedsters at the place kicking position, no matter how tired Lynch was he did get rundown by a kicker who was several yards behind at the start.

bluehenbillk
December 18th, 2007, 02:05 PM
I know Lynch isn't the fastest guy on the field, but I'll tell you this, he's the best safety I've seen at the 1-AA level in a long, long time. The guy has great football instincts & is one helluva player. To say I came away impressed after watching him is more than fair to say.

He'll be on an NFL roster next year, at the worst as a crack special teams guy. Not that he needs the money, isn't he marrying into the Billy Graham billions?

Maurice Murray will get a tryout at some team as a simple power runner, maybe even a fullback. He has great strength and toughness. He is fast through the hole, but doesn't have corner turning or big breakaway speed.

Lynch would be a great for the Panthers on and off the field! And a lot of that will have to do with his very pleasant looking, soon-to-be wife:

Outside of the fact that Corey played a lot more snaps than the Michigan kicker, Corey also said on camera that he was cramping really bad as he was running the blocked kick back.

Trust me Corey Lynch has plenty of speed. He runs a 4.45 40 so I'd say he can get there fast enough.

I pray to god that Alex Watson gets picked up....although he didnt have a great senior year (which wasn't completely his fault, NAU just couldnt get the ball to him) he still deserves maybe a free agency pick up this year. if he gets snubbed, it will be the 2nd consecutive year it happens to a prolific NAU senior.

I think Watson has a better chance than Murietta had. Murietta had a funky delivery and didn't really every match his GREAT freshman year, and coming from a small school those things hurt much more than say if you are Vince Young.

From what I've heard from NFL Scouts it goes like this:

You run a 4.4 something - you get drafted
You run a 4.5 something - you're a free agent
You run 4.6 something or below - look for another line of work.

Well as we all know the days that lead up to the combine players train even harder to improve their numbers. I'm sure Corey could shave off up to a full second on the 40. Plus the pro scouts are going to take his strength and understanding of the game into account. So even if he does end up running a 4.5 or 4.6 he'll still get a spot on a team.

That would have to be some serious training if he is planning on shaving a full second off his 40 time. Training that I don't think the world has ever seen. Maybe you meant a 1/10 th of a second?

I just don't think he is a lock to get drafted. I believe Jackson and Brown will get a combine invite and both should get drafted, Brown will for sure. Lynch is a fringe guy. I heard he was rated much lower by scouts than both Jackson and Brown. I am not saying the scouts are right. I am just saying that I don't think the NFL has him rated that highly. I believe he will impress people with his special teams ability and his intelligence. If he doesn't make a team that would be a surprise. I expect him to be a surprise in training camp because he doesn't get drafted.

Lynch has good nose for the ball and a knack for being in the right place at the right time. His speed is fine-- the whole Michigan kicker thing is a red herring (he played the whole game, started cramping 20 yards into the run, etc, etc). Who cares that he didn't score? He was still the playmaker who won the game.

The biggest problem Lynch will face in terms of landing a spot on an NFL roster is his tackling technique. Lynch stops more ball carriers by knocking them down instead of wrapping them up-- and that won't get it done in the NFL.

I'm surprised not to see Kroy Bierman on any lists. I doubt he would play DE in the NFL, but could he get a shot at OLB?

I think he gets a shot. Hopefully he gets a combine invite.

Where is Foster?

He doesn't have a combine invite yet. I am shocked Foster and Brown both haven't gotten one. Anyone heard of another player getting one who is not on that list I have compiled from asking around and reading the internet?

"From the people we've been talking to, the gut feeling is he'll be invited to the NFL Combine, too," - UNH Coach Sean McDonnell on QB Ricky Santos.

Draftdaddy is reporting that Marcus Dixon and Antwuan Molden have received invites....

I have no problem believing Dixon got an invite.....He would've been a FBS star had it not been for legal problems....If true, Molden would be a mild surprise

Molden actually doesn't shock me. Molden will get drafted. Dixon would if not for off field trouble as well. Kendall Langford has gotten an invite to the combine as well.

He should have already gotten an invite, unless he is going to be a drills QB. Drills QBs aren't just there for a few days. They throw for drills that use all position players.

Here is an updated list of combine invites I have collected on FCS players

Dexter Jackson Appalachian State
Jerome Simpson Coastal Carolina
Joe Flacco Delaware
Antwaun Molden Eastern Kentucky
Jerome Felton Furman
Kendall Langford Hampton
Marcus Dixon Hampton
Rudolph Hardie Howard
Jaymar Johnson Jackson State
Bryan Smith McNeese State
Ricky Santos New Hampshire- expects to this week but i don't think he will. his agent has told the media he expects next week... if a player hasn't gotten it yet he is not on the first list. he would have to be a late add as a drills QB and might. i think he will get his in 2-3 weeks.
Mike Dragosavich North Dakota State
Chad Rinehart Northern Iowa
Demetrius Bell Northwestern State
Tim Hightower Richmond
Arman Shields Richmond
Josh Johnson San Diego
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Tennessee State

Lex Hilliard of Montana has a combine invite! He is hurt and won't play in the Texas game but will workout at Indy.

Kerry Brown has not been invited to the combine. Brian Johnston won't either I don't think. I have heard a comparison of him to former South Carolina player John Stamper who got drafted and didn't make it. Seems Johnston has dropped to 7th round range. I still think someone takes him in the 5th-6th round. He is looking good in training from what I hear.

What exactly is "Phone-booth power"?

I'm thinking it means really strong in a restricted/limited area. In context of the rest of the quote, they indicate that his mobility is marginal.

I figured Jackson would get an invite....scouts have been most of the games looking at him, especially after Michigan.

He and Brown are the two who seem to be getting draftable attention. I figure both in the 4th-7th round. Brown 5th-6th and Jackson 6th-7th maybe? Of course if Jackson does well at the combine and Shrine game he could go much higher. Brown should do well at the Texas game. I would think he goes 4th-6th round.
