LaTroy is a nice guy, kind of a streaky pitcher though.

And yet, the Twins owner would probably be being crucified if he was given the same opportunity and decided against it. xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx xlolx

LaTroy is a nice guy, kind of a streaky pitcher though.

Which makes him like most of the guys the Yanks threw out from their pen last year.

He can join the list with last year's members Mariano Rivera, Kyle Farnsworth, Chris Britton, Ross Ohlendorf, Darryl Rasner, Edwar Ramirez, Brian Bruney, Jose Veras, Jeff Karstens, Kei Igawa, Sean Henn, Chase Wright, rehabbing Humberto Sanchez, recently-acquired Jonathan Albaladejo and possibly the next pitching gem Alan Horne (Joba redux?) to see who gets in the pen for 2008. Should be quite interesting.

Oh yeah, NY's supposedly looking at Ron Mahay from Texas or into trading for Damaso Marte from Pittsburgh. Then of course there's the Hideki Matsui to SF for Noah Lowry rumor....

Really, it's tough to build a bullpen out of nowhere when there's no real quality free agents. We'll have to see how some of the kids do, I guess

I'm as big a Yankee hater as any, but I don't see much wrong with this deal. $3m-$4m season is the going rate for relief pitchers of his caliber and age. See Chad Bradford, Scott Schoeneweis, Jose Mesa, David Weathers, Todd Jones, Roberto Hernandez etc.

Hawkins, who will be 35 this spring, was (2-5) with a 3.42 ERA last season for the Rockies. He made five postseason appearances, allowing one run and one hit in five innings.

I will take a set-up guy with a 3.42 ERA.
His ERA at the end of June was 4.64 so he had a good second half, too.

Not a bad signing.

As long as he pitches 1 inning, he's fine. and with Joe Torre gone, there is no chance that he'll ride Hawkins for a month straight and burn him out.

Guess he really wanted a former Twin pitcher...

Hawk is a headcase and could never handle the pressure when it mattered most. I watched him blow game after game for the Cubs. What the hech is he going to do when he starts getting booed in New York.

It's "only" $3 million. The Yankees wasted a lot more money then that on players last year.

As a Cubs fan , I feel that I need to apologize to all Yankee fans. I hope you don't like those late inning leads, seems like when he pitched for us all he did was let runs score.

Didn't you know $3 million is the "league minimum" in the MLB-to-Yankee Dollar conversion? xlolx
