I was pretty devastated when I found out yesterday. I met him when I was 19 and spent a lot of time with him through my college years and well into my 20s. We hadn't been as in touch the last couple years but I would still always check to see what he was up to.
Him and his brother (because what about D1B?) were truly the most genuine and caring people you could imagine, all while playing his schtick online better than anyone ever.
I hope there are plenty of pigeons for him wherever he is.

Really sad to hear the news. A mainstay of the early years.
Met him twice - once at an NAU game in Flagstaff, and he and D1B came down to my wedding.

Just sticking my head back in to pay a little tribute…
I never met Cap’n in person although D1B and I met for beers in DC in 2012. Cap’n was one of the most hilarious posters on this forum and I enjoyed sparring with him from time to time.
He had his online persona, but IRL he was one of the nicest guys. The world is a lesser place today.
Hey Bill… in heaven, you can finally have that vagina!

Always interesting in this world of online chat that when someone you've never met before has passed, you can still miss them like you've been friends for years. RIP Cap'n!

People say things like "One of a kind" and so forth too much but this guy fits that...Bill. He was so funny and as clenzy said a true caring individual that would call and text about once a month or so with something funny or just a simple "How you doing man, what's going on in Missoula?"
God dang it he was a smart and funny dude and he is the cornerstone of what AGS was built on. RIP Bill, I really loved having you as a friend. My life has been better for having known you.

This is terrible news. I never met Bill in person, but I spoke to him on the phone at Baldy’s house once after a GSU game and a lot of drinking. He was a big-hearted guy with a great sense of humor, and he was a mainstay of this board for years. Referring to him in the past tense just doesn’t make sense. RIP.

Dang. I got the chance to meet Bill and his brother in Missoula. Hard to miss as they were two of the largest humans I ever met. Both with a heart of gold and great guys. Also, brought a truck full of booze with them to the tailgate, it was classic!

The Cap’n was a funny dude. He made trips to Youngstown for games and trolled the tailgate lots. Great guy. Was from nearby Steubenville. He used to torment the fans on our cheerleader board and , of course, here. lol

I just went over to twitter and had a message from citdog. He wanted me to pass along condolences and let everyone here know how much he enjoyed arguing and battling with Cap'n Cat and also how much he liked and respected the man. Personally I remember them getting together back in the day and putting up the loot for sponsoring a month here at AGS. I know Kevin was fond of Bill and wanted to pass this along.

The Cap'n was the champ at getting one's goat.
If you were foolish enough to take the Cap's needling seriously, you were going to lead a miserable life. His intellect carried the wry brilliance of a prankster that was always testing your response to his outrageousness. We are less happy and less entertained for his passing. My prayers and condolences are with his family especially his "little" Brother D1B.
In my book, there was only one Captain at UNI. He did his team Proud.

Wow. I am stunned to hear bout this. I never me the Cap'n, but we had a lot of good back and forth on the board--especially back in 2020 when Lehigh was in the playoffs and traveled to the UniDome and knocked off the Panthers in a stunning upset. I got to chat with a bunch of the Panther faithful and he was most gracious. I know he had "his moments" going head to head with the some AGSers, including the admins, but his heart was in a good place. Always loved his avatar. I suggest it remain somewhere on the Board. Here's to ya' Bill, er..Cap'n and I hope you always have your piss bottle handy!! RIP ngineer

I don't think Cap'n posted much during the time I was active on the board but his reputation as one of the most entertaining posters on AGS preceded him. And, of course, his thread at the top of the Trash Can Treasures forum is a gem that will exist for as long as AGS does.

A few years ago I talked to Jeff not long after the Cap'n had had a heart issue and an ambulance ride - He said Bill was cutting up asking the paramedics for one last triple cheeseburger. Very sad that I didn't get to meet him IRL

For those who didn’t know Bill, he was a huge guy. Played OT at UNI at 6’7 , 290. My first meet up was in Youngstown for the UNI game in the tailgate lots. Bill was loud, boisterous and overbearing if you didn’t know him. He was wearing a huge flowing royal purple cape that flew in the air on that windy day. He took verbal shots but was good natured. Moved around tent to tent introducing himself. Some of us knew the Cap’n was coming, so it made for an entertaining day. Always quick with a funny jab, he was smart but down to earth.
My favorite description of him was summed up in one word - outrageous. Very unique individual.

Larger than life in every possible way.
I'll never forgetting sitting at The OP - a pizza place/bar in Cedar Falls - with Bill, Jeff, and a few others including another former AGS poster from Illinois State after an Illinois State game. There was probably 8 or 9 of us there. BIG group in more than a few ways. The things he would say to the staff to get them to laugh or blush were things a "normal" person wouldn't dream of, but in a harmless way. The end of the night comes and we all start getting ready to settle up for the insane levels of food and drinks that were there and the waitress just went "You guys are all set.". The ****er picked up the entire tab for the entire groups night, plus based on how the waitress mentioned we were good, did "right" by her for putting up with all of us.
I don't remember if that was the same day that he forced me to wear a SIU shirt because he lost a bet with houndawg (IIRC) and he had to be bowing down to his SIU overlord. So there was a photo of him just on his knees in front of me like a servant to a king....then there were a few more of him on his knees miming a few other actions....and if you knew anything about Bill you can guess what was happening. I don't know if they ever actually made their way to houndawg (again, i think that's who it was), but I'm just glad they were taken in a way my face wasn't in them - for the things being mimed in them and it having me in a SIU shirt.

Might have been Skinny Uncle, we traded shirts but the largest SIU shirt I could find was only a XXXL so I doubt that he was able to wear it - I so wanted to meet him and Jeff at an SIU/UNI game. I haven't been this bummed about the passing of a guy I never met since John Lennon was shot.

Full Obituary
William (Bill) Bealles, age 60 of Dundas, passed away surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday morning, October 31, 2023, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis following an extended illness.
William John Bealles III was born June 11, 1963, in Steubenville, Ohio, to William J. and Maryann R. (Steiner) Bealles. While growing up, Bill’s love for traveling began since his family moved often for his dad’s work. They lived in Pittsburgh, Steubenville, Chicago, Toledo, Kennedy, Texas, Lodi, California, and back to the Chicago area. In 1981 Bill graduated from Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park, Illinois. His athletic talents lead him to the football program at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. After completing his freshman year at Northern Illinois he transferred to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) in Cedar Falls to play football for the late football legend, Darrel Mudra and his offensive line coach, Coach Klinker. In 1986, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in Political Science. After a short stint in the NFL, playing with the Saints and Dolphins, he returned to UNI where he worked on his master’s degree and coached with the UNI football team.
In the summer of 1990, Bill met his future wife Janet Lee Rabb. They met at a fundraiser golf outing for UNI football. They were paired together to sell raffle tickets and after that evening, Janet called home and told her parents that she just met the man that she was going to marry. In 1991, after completing school at UNI, both Janet and Bill moved to Colorado where Bill coached football for Ft. Lewis College in Durango. A year later they moved to Plymouth, Minnesota, where Bill took a job with General Mills and began his career in food production. On July 24, 1993, Bill and Janet married in Sioux City, Iowa. After marriage they made their home in St. Paul. Bill worked in various cities over the years, including Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Toledo, Ohio, Mansfield, Ohio, and Battle Creek, Michigan. In 2004, Bill started working with Malt-O-Meal and in 2006 the family moved to Northfield. Over the last years, as his health declined, he worked various jobs - most recently with the City of Northfield.
Bill enjoyed fishing, old movies, road trips, his dog Lilly, college football and following the University of Northern Iowa Panthers football. Above all he loved and cherished his wife and sons. Bill was funny, generous, intelligent and a good friend. Everyone felt that Bill missed his true calling and should have been a writer. His regular phone calls and text groups with his friends and family will be missed and created cherished, legendary memories especially the many that resulted in uncontrollable laughter. Bill went to extraordinary measures in maintaining relationships with friends that spanned grade school, high school, college, career years and beyond. He will be missed by many dear friends from all over the country.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years Janet; his sons Alex of Northfield, Andrew of Bemidji; his mother Maryann of Royal Palm Beach, Florida. He is also survived by three siblings, being especially close with his sister Marianne Bealles of West Palm Beach, FL, his brother, Jeffrey Bealles of Royal Palm Beach, FL, and countless aunts, uncles, niece and nephew, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Willam J Bealles, II.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Saturday, December 9th, 2023, from 4 to 7 at the Reunion, in Northfield, Minnesota. In remembrance of Bill Bealles’ life, the family asks that donations be made to the Panther Legacy Club to support Bill’s beloved UNI Panther football.
