If it was not for these guy's, at least 5 team's a year would have a shot at the AAAAA State Title.

#2 George County is next in line for a shot at knocking off the "unbeatable".
I WILL BE AT THIS GAME FRIDAY NIGHT AT MEMORIAL STADIUM.

The sad part is George County is just like Olive Branch, Meridian, Oak Grove, and Clarksdale.
They can beat anybody but these guy's. xsmhx

What would it take to end South Panola's 74 game win streak? (http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071206/SPORTS06/71205044/1117)

A lot has changed since Dec. 6, 2002. Gas prices were less than $1.50 a gallon, Britney hadn’t met K-Fed and chart-topping rapper Soulja Boy was an unknown 12-year-old in Batesville named DeAndre Cortez Way. Yet at least one thing has remained the same: Nobody — repeat nobody — has beaten South Panola. That’s 74 games — and a state-record 74 consecutive victories.

This year I believe it was Pinkerton Academy in Derry, NH....

Usually Pinkerton and Central in Manchester are the two top teams in Div I, but Central had a so so year this year.

My school Memorial in Manchester just sucks beyond belief!

Walton killed my alma mater (Centennial) back in October. I don't know who the top team in Georgia is. I keep seeing Northside-Warner Robins, a AAAA school, nationally ranked. Back when I was in school, Parkview was always the top team in the state. One year my school was 11-0 and played them in the playoffs and lost 49-0. Worst game ever!

As long as they don't have a tie like they had in the state championship last year, anything is good.

In Tenn.:

10. Maryville, Tenn. (14-0)

Previous: 13. Result: RB Thomas Shuler scored three TDs in a 48-21 playoff victory against Sullivan South (Kingsport). Next: 4A title game, Saturday vs. Maplewood (Nashville).

They knocked out my boy Curt Phillips (Sullivan South)...He's the first QB from this area to go to a big school (Wisconsin) since a fella named Steve Spurrier...

In Va.:

25. Westfield, Chantilly, Va. (14-0)

Previous: Not ranked. Result: Quarterback Mike Glennon ran for one TD and passed for 270 yards and another TD in a 24-21 playoff win vs. Oscar Smith. Next: Division 6 championship, Saturday vs. Woodbridge.

Never followed them, but they must be good if they knocked off Oscar Smith...I'm more of a Hampton Roads f-ball fan myself, give me O.S. Landstown, Western Branch or Hampton over anybody from NoVA.

Not totally up on NY football, but I couple of big names I'd recognize are:

Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse)-the Paulus brothers went here, including Greg who plays BBall at Duke
Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas (Rochester)
Monroe-Woodbury (Westchester)-Colgate backup QB Greg Sullivan went here, they've lost 2 of the last 3 state title games, their only losses over that time span (or something crazy like that)
Might also throw in Onondaga (near Syracuse)-Mike Hart's high school

Probably some good ones around Albany or on Long Island, maybe Orchard Park near Buffalo

Now, if the question was about Boy's Soccer teams, that's where you'd find my high school right near the top xthumbsupx

Monroe Woodbury is in Orange County, not Westchester (other side of the river) and right across the street from Woodbury Commons. They are a machine over there. My brother is a head coach in the same section (9) and same division. He's gotten beat by Monroe the last two years in the regular season and the playoffs.

Surprisingly (to me at least), Bosco hasn't been a "producer" of DI football talent. They're best players usually end up on scholarship for other sports (baseball usually).

Did know that about MW. Don't know why I said Westchester

My high school, Arlington, is trying to boost their football program, so they actually hired the MW Coach's son to try and turn the team around. I've heard good things about him, but they still went 1-7 this year, so it could be a long term project. Granted, no one else we regularly play is very good either, so maybe there's hope...

MW is a factory from youth football up:

They have a kid (sophomore QB - Dan Scalo) who is ridiculous. Check out his season stats:

174 total points
186 rushes for 1811 yards and 29 TDs - 9.7 yrds/carry
61 of 90 for 1339 yards passing and 13 TDs

This is where I will be tonight after work.
Ain't nothing like watching all these small town kid's rolling into memorial hyped about being here.
These school's are having a ball in the Capitol City.

The HYPE.

They will travel to the capital city on buses, 10 football teams from throughout Mississippi, seeking to win a state title today or Saturday. They will attempt to make history for their towns, which have a combined population of 40,703, or less than one-fourth that of Jackson.

Teenage athletes, some of whom have never been to the state's largest city, will perform in a stadium dripping with tradition. Jerry Rice played at Veterans Memorial Stadium. So did Brett Favre and Steve McNair.

Even the fans won't be immune. The concrete aisle steps, on which they will walk to their seats, were once the grueling summer workout trail of the late, great Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton.

When he, too, was young and full of dreams

The game.

South Panola's Tig Barksdale (left) and George County's Alonzo Lawrence will have a Dandy Dozen reunion in tonight's Class 5A championship game in Jackson

They are the undefeated and undisputed heavyweight champions of Mississippi high school football.

The big and bad South Panola Tigers - ranked No. 1 in Mississippi by The Clarion-Ledger and Nos. 3 and 9 nationally by SI.com and USA Today - put their state-record 74-game winning streak on the line against George County in tonight's Class 5A state championship game

In S.C., it's hands-down the Byrnes High Rebels from Duncan, SC.

Ranked 11th-15th nationally, depending on the poll you choose, they outscored opponents by an average of 37-11 this year, winning the State Championship over Summerville High by a final of 48-9. South Carolina State AAAA Football Champions 1986, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007- AAA 1976 and 1982.

Interesting sidenote- John McKissick coaches Summerville High, and is the only coach in the long history of the sport at any level—high school, college or pro—to pass the formidable 500-win mark. As of 2007, he hasn't missed a game in 56 years. He has led Summerville to 10 state championships, with an overall record of 556-129-13.

Yep, Northside-WR is ranked #7 in the USATODAY poll, and on a 28 game winning streak dating back to the start of last season.

In just under six hours, they'll be playing in the semi-finals in the GA Dome ... so far this year in the playoffs, they have not surrendered any points.

Northside has made a nice run over the last few years ... and started their rise to statewide prominence after losing in the finals to one of the last dominant Parkview teams. That particular game had two heavyweights on the opposite sidelines ... it featured Chansi Stuckey at QB (former Clemson WR playing now with the NY Jets) versus Jeff Francouer (Atlanta Braves) at DB.

Since that loss, Northside has made it to two additional title games and split them ... hopefully this year they'll wrap up one more and send my old HS football coach out a winner ... next year, Northside moves up to AAAAA and they will lose a lot of players that have been the cornerstone of their recent run.

Naw.
I have to agree.xnodx

In fact, if they had not broke that school up when the other's were built in that area, Madison Central would be just like a COUNTY School sitting right on the edge of the city of Jackson.

Back in '01, ya'll won the overall state sport's award and was only in existance for 3 or 4 years.
Ya'll had all the talent in that end of the county practically to yourselves.
They would have been unstoppable.

That's the problem the school's in Jackson have.
TOO DANG MANY.
What we got bout 20 highschool's in this city? xlolx

If Jackson, ( just for the sake of argument), could cut the number of highschool's down to say 5, we would rule in football just like we rule in basketball.

It's easy for the school's in Jackson to get 15 basketball baller's cause that's the #1 sport here with football being #1.5. xlolx
That was shown when 8 basketball team's from Jackson made it to the Big House for the State tournament.

The football talent is spread out too thin.
Imagine Provine highschool if they had the talent from Wingfield and Jim Hill.

Same if they merged Murrah, Calloway, and Baily Magnent.

I know the feeling, here in Tampa there are 20 high schools in the city of Tampa and 10 in the suburbs of Tampa (less than 10 minutes away). The bad part about it is that 12 of those schools are 10 years old or younger. And to top it off the county doesn't allow teams to play outside of Hillsborough County in the regular season. xnonono2x

Here in Missouri, the king is Kansas City's Rockhurst High School. All boys school right on the Missouri-Kansas line, so they can pull talent from both states. Lots of D1 players year in and year out. Another program that used to be on the national scene was Jefferson City High School. Their head coach used to be #2 on the all-time high school wins list.

Eden Prairie High School, AAAAA, Minnesota.

6 Championships since 1996, Coached by Bud Grants son, and this years QB was Bud Grants Grandson. Many Former Vikings players send their kids there, plus the coaching available via the players and coaches.

Yeah, that split with Ridgeland hurt. I might be wrong, since I've been away and haven't followed them too much, but from what I've heard Ridgeland has done pretty well for themselves in 4A. You're def. right though, Jackson has way too many schools to divide their talent. It's like Ole Miss, MS State and Southern Miss divding it up three ways, instead of most places like Alabama with just Bama and Auburn, or Georgia with UGA and Tech. Same thing with JPS.

Richland Springs, Texas. They play 6 man. They have mercy ruled every opponent that they have played this year. This only happens when a team is up by more than 45 points.

Regular Season-
78-32
68-6
62-16
72-0
82-8
84-0
62-0
56-0
60-14

Playoffs-
Richland Springs 54 Lometa 6
Richland Springs 93 May 43
Richland Springs 76 Calvert 26
Richland Springs 70 Trinidad 22

That's a margin of 917 (points scored) - 173 (points allowed)

Fargo South definately (although my almamater knocked them off a few years ago). South seems to be one of "the teams to beat" in more than just football though lately i.e. hockey, basketball. Question..........is the new proposed high school in South Fargo going to cut into South's enrollment to the point where it will effect South in sports? or does Fargo schools have "open enrollment" and no matter where you live you can pick the school where you want to go?

S. Panola came out and steamrolled to a 21-0 halftime lead and then got caught up in the moment.................xeekx
The 2nd half started and those George County kid's came out and lined up for the kickoff jumping, stomping, and pumping their fans up and came out with a near upset spurred on by a trick play and on-side's kicks coupled with a loss of focus by S. Panola.

In the end, it was S. Panola and that big offensive line, "Tig" Barksdale running for 339 yds on 33 carries, 4 td's, AND HE PLAY DB THE ENTIRE GAME chasing people down. xnodx
He should have had 5 td's but after sprinting 50 yds toward's the end zone, he dropped the ball out at the 1 yard line when he got hit because he thought he was already in the endzone.

1st year coach keep The Universities Streak alive. (http://www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071209/SPORTS06/712090346/1117/sports06)

About 60 minutes after South Panola's 28-21 victory over George County on Friday night, Lance Pogue stood in the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium parking lot and talked quietly with a few family members.

Yet instead of sporting a wide grin for his team's Class 5A state championship, Pogue looked like a man who'd survived a multi-month battle.

In some ways, he had.

Pogue was hired last spring to replace the hugely successful and popular Ricky Woods, who led SP to four consecutive 15-0 seasons and 5A titles before taking a coaching job at Bainbridge (Ga.) High.

The Tigers earned their state-record 75th straight victory Friday by building a 21-0 lead, then surviving a late charge in the final 6 minutes by George County (13-2).

Charlotte Independence....had nations longest active win streak until earlier this season.....almost surpassed (or might have) DeLaSalle's win streak.....lost their first game to a NC team this year for the first time in like, 10 years......

Produced CJ Leak (Tennessee), Chris Leak (Florida Nat'l Champs), Hakeem Nicks (All ACC WR UNC), DJ Smith (ASU SC Def POW last week, true Freshman), and plenty of other D1 talent.......dude's got a factory and is starting to come under fire somewhat for having players from outrside of district......

This is easy Prattville. They are just too fast for everyone else.

NW Warner Robbins came from behind this week to win in the GA dome.

Buford to me has the best looking team in GA.

The only thing about Buford is that they play most of their games against very small, very weak teams. They are in AA, so they don't play most of the really top teams in Georgia.

Here is the State Championship lineup for Georgia this weekend:

AAAAA - North Gwinnett at Lowndes
AAAA - Northside-WR at Ware County
AAA - Carver-Columbus at Cairo
AA - Lovett at Buford
A - Emanuel County at Wilcox County

North Gwinnett lost to Prattville 36-3 earlier in the year.

I don't think North Gwinnett is the top team in Georgia. This is the second year in a row where AAAAA hasn't produced a definite #1 like it did about five years ago, so if a team dominates AAAA, like Northside, they end up getting known as the top team in the state.

Prattville 6A state champions in Alabama for the second year in a row. I actually got to watch them play covering a story for the B'ham news. They are quite impressive.

Westfield. The school has only been around for seven years, and it has already spawned at least 100 Division I scholarship athletes (Va. Tech's Sean Glennon, for example).

Sadly, it is also the alumni of the Va. Tech shooter.

Overall, the best talent in the state is in the Hampton Roads/Tidewater areas. Names like Lawrence Taylor, Terry Kirby, Chris Slade, Michael Vick, Ronald Curry, Nathaniel Adibi, Marcus Vick, Allen Iverson (a better QB than PG/SG any day), Tyrod Taylor (I haven't even left the Peninsula yet), Roger Brown, Earl Faison, Leroy Keyes, Bruce Smith, Plaxico Burress, Dre Bly, Rudi Johnson, and MANY, MANY, more ALL come from Hampton Roads. If we could keep one tenth of the talent that comes out of Hampton Roads locally, Hampton, NSU, and now ODU would be in the National Championship hunt every year.

Amen on Hampton Roads!! I used to love going to football games there because you were almost guaranteed to be seeing DI talent in every game.

My wife went to high school with Plaxico Burress (Green Run used to be the school back in the day, then Landstown stole all its talent and GR is lucky if they score in a game)...He came back for his ten year reunion. Made the whole thing worth going to!!

In CT there would be a real interesting match-up. After the playoffs were completed, I believe the final polls had a school from the smallest classification ranked #1 while #2 was from the largest classification. Both are pretty intriguing.

#1 Ansonia is like a PA town in CT. It is a small, blue collar, mill town that has always had a successful football program. They play in a league with other Naugatuck Valley high schools, most of which have larger enrollments, all located in blue collar towns. For those of you who have read Nine Nations of North America, this region was included in the Rust Belt not in New England. Dan Orlowsky of recent UConn fame and currently on the Detroit Lions came out of this league.

#2 Greenwich has one of the largest enrollments in CT and is probably the wealthiest town in CT. They too have a long history of successful football programs. IIRC, the 49ers' Steve Young played at this HS. Greenwich is the first town in CT on I-95 coming from NY State. And when I say the wealthiest town, I'm talking about a town in the region of CT known as the Gold Coast because of the relative wealth of the area. Lots of corporate HQ's as well as executives commuting into NYC.

It's really too bad CT doesn't crown one overall State Champion because I think a lot of folks would pay to see an Ansonia-Greenwich match-up. And many years there would be this type of match-up because there are a handful of small schools in CT with terrific football pedigrees that could compete with the big schools.

That was a heck of a comeback the NWWR QB put on. I guess his broke leg is officially healed.

Yes, last week's game was quite the comeback. Ivory didn't have a great championship game, but the other seniors bailed him out at the end.

Northside-WR finished the year undefeated last night, beating Ware County 20-14 in Waycross to earn back-to-back AAAA Georgia titles.

The Eagles are only the seventh team in Georgia history to have a 30-0 run in two seasons xthumbsupx

They played this season in honor of fallen senior Chris Johnson .. a defensive lineman who succumbed to cancer after a courageous struggle.

This young man was an inspiration to his teammates and community, and I felt a special bond to him as not only a fellow alum, but as someone who played a bit role in his fight vs. cancer. He was in our hospital for almost the entire year before his passing, and was an extremely courageous young man despite his illness.

Working the night shift as I have the last sixteen years, I frequently bumped into him in the wee morning hours when he would 'escape' the nursing unit to make a late night run for some ice cream.

RIP #96 xbawlingx

It is Northside not Northwest, I alway want to call it NW.

I watched last night game on the computer and the Division I game on tv. NWR came back again with the late TD pass, congrats. Hopefully #96 is still smiling from above.
