Andruw Jones is following Joe Torre to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Gold Glove center fielder and the Dodgers reached a preliminary agreement Wednesday night on a $36.2 million, two-year contract that gives him the fifth-highest average salary in the major leagues.

He must pass a physical for the deal to be completed, a person familiar with the negotiations said, speaking on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.

A five-time All-Star, Jones will receive a $12.2 million signing bonus, of which $5.1 million is payable next year, $2.1 million in 2009 and $5 million in 2010. He well get salaries of $9 million next year and $15 million in 2009, and also will receive a no-trade clause.

His agreement with the Dodgers was first reported by the Los Angeles Times on its Web site.

Jones really hurt his value this past season (his walk year). Anyway, I think this is a fine move by the Dodgers. First of all they get to move Juan Pierre to a corner outfield spot, which is where he belongs. Second of all I expect Jones to have a bounce back year offensively.

They definitely overpaid for him at $18m a year, but I'd rather overpay for a player like Jones over 2 years then overpay for a guy like Jones for 6 years...

Now if they did this as a precursor to trading Matt Kemp then I'm not sure how I feel about it. Right now I like it though.

If he's got some tread left on him, I like the move. Any improvement is needed to challenge in the NL West.

A move destined to maintain LA mired in mediocrity. He's a better defensive player, but he's an overpaid JD Drew offensively. xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx

Besides, if the D-Backs land Dan Haren, it won't matter a lick what anybody else does... xlolx xlolx xwhistlex xwhistlex

I think this is a good move for LA they need AJ patrolling their outfield...

As a Braves fan, I'm glad to see him go. Jones was way too unreliable and even when his power stroke was working, his batting average and K's were a problem. Besides, I've always felt like he wasn't trying his hardest most of the time. No doubt, Andruw Jones is a great ball player, but I'd much rather see someone else in CF for the Braves and have that money applied to a bigger need (ie: Pitching).
