SLC Week 7 Pick 'Em
Four games on tap this weekend, three conference tilts with NSU 0-1 SLC on the road for the second week at a row at 2-0 SLC Nicholls; Lamar 2-0 SLC at winless SLU 0-2 SLC; and Commerce 1-0 SLC, after spanking McNeese 0-2 SLC, heading to UIW 1-0 SLC. These games are all afternoon games.
HCU 1-2 SLC hosts Prairie View A&M in a nonconference matchup. You won't have the Cowboys to pick on this week as they take on Open U in the hopes of figuring something out.

No awards or prizes. Keep track of your own record during the season. When all is said and done, we will recognize the winner or winners. I hope to have a poll, but if not, just copy and paste and bold your selections.
The poll will close Saturday morning.

33-4 going into this week. I think I left out a week when totalling the past results in past posts.
This week is a little tough. Two games I have trouble with. One is Lamar at SLU. Lamar is improving but SLU had been playing the tougher schedule. Got to go with SLU. The other is the HCU-PVAMU. I have a hard time getting a read on HCU. At times they look good and other times bad. I think I will go with Prairie View but I could be wrong.

Yes, I have your pick total correct (I posted it on the SLC Week 6 Pick 'em thread). I do not bother with the wrong picks. Yes, you are correct. I could toss a coin for HCU/Prairie View, but I think I am going with all the home teams - again.

Going with sela over LU….unless i have another “late jockey change” again. I think our not so good oline has some injuries. Gotta watch the coach’s show tomorry. I hope they play sawyer (i think hes the better qb..but the other kid runs. We dont do so hot against running qbs..or running backs for that matter…or wide receivers running jet sweeps..Ok, we suck against the run!)
i think nich beats the crap outta nwst (nicholls may not lose again this year)
Uiw should curb stomp commerce
Hcu should beat pv, oughta be a close game

Hopefully some featherhead won't want to be changing votes again.
McNeese will struggle with Open U. I'm glad we don't have to pick this game this week.

According to Bonarae:
Uh oh. Demons at Colonels cancelled because of the death of a Demons player.
https://fbschedules.com/northwestern...rday-canceled/ (https://fbschedules.com/northwestern-state-at-nicholls-football-game-on-saturday-canceled/)
RIP Mr. Caldwell. Tragic. Prayers to the family and friends and the NSU community.

Due to the cancellation of the NSU at Nicholls game, only three games were counted this week.
Bonarae was the only one to successfully pick Lamar over SLU.
McNeese72 had an uncharacteristically bad week, with only one correct pick. That means Bonarae and SFA 93 are right on Doc's heels with McCowboys not far behind.
A few of us picked HCU over Prairie View, but who could have seen the 30-0 beat down!

ok, heres my defense:
*I cant pick Lamar, that would be like changing socks during a hitting streak. Ive been picking against them, so…
*alot of this I blame on whoever stole mcneeses uniforms and is suiting up in their place. (Is that lagrange hs?)
*i keep thinking selas gotta win..right?

Unfortunately, that is us - or what is left of us. More players (2 wide receivers) have left the team and so more and more true freshmen and a few water boys and ball girls will be called into duty.

that was Lamar for the previous 3 years under morgan. Had freshmen playing everywhere. Couldnt keep anybody. I got (and still am) sick of the “we are so young” excuse.

Any particular reasons behind the leaving?

Any particular reasons behind the leaving?
For the last two, they did not enter the portal but went into the workforce for personal reasons. The one who transferred from Cincinnati and was highly touted has a wife and baby. Maybe if he had transferred to Texas A&M or Utah, he could have found enough NLI money, but not at McNeese. Wishing both the best.

Any particular reasons behind the leaving?
This may be more than you need to know, but here is Zem's (Keith Zembower's) rundown on today's blog:
https://zemsgems.wordpress.com/
I added some comments in brackets [ ]
Goff said that there are only 34 remaining players from last year’s roster, so the emphasis would be on retaining the younger players on the roster. A couple of wins would certainly help. Part of the problem this year is the attrition rate of several players who were here in August. I understand that players who are not playing as much as they had hoped are disgruntled, and others had a problem following rules including going to class. We have seen running backs Jarvis Newton, Josh Parker [redshirt sophomore - I really hated to lose him], and Cam Thomas all depart for various reasons. With [running backs] Durham and Hamm missing the Commerce game, the Pokes were down to guys who were 5th and 6th on the depth chart. [McNeese played one true freshman wide receiver at running back for a play or two, and as fast as he is, he tended to run east and west rather than north and south.]
The wide receiver room was decreased when letterman Koby Duru left late in the summer for Louisiana Tech and starter Jalen Johnson was dismissed two weeks ago. Ailah Brown and Marcus Peterson were expected to be huge pickups for the receiving group, but they played sparingly and appeared not interested in attending class. Markel Cotton left during the summer as well. Mason Pierce left last December for Marshall. Severyn Foster departed during the summer as well. I do think the timing of departures is important because coaches want to know before February who is not returning so they can recruit.
You don’t have to look far to figure you why we are short at linebacker. Jayce Bludau was signed last year and got his degree and left with a year or two left of eligibility. He did fight injury problems. Ryan Brubacker was a walk-on from the Dallas area, and he departed after the spring, Trevor Jones a promising signee in 2021 left after spring, and newcomer Kylen Armstrong was dismissed two weeks ago. Probably the toughest hit was South Alabama LB transfer C.J. Rius leaving during the spring.
I have already covered the losses in the defensive line, so we will move on. The bottom line is there will be scholarships available, and recruiting has to be a priority if next year will be different.....[Pretty awful results from the transfer portal. MUST do better.]
