Oh well, I expected the Eagles to lose. Andy Reid is now 2-5 on opening day, so I wasn't optimistic going in.
However, one thing is starting to concern me....
Donovan McNabb is starting his 7th season in the league, yet when it's 2 minutes to go and the game is on the line, I have almost no faith in him to guide the Birds to victory.
I realize part of this is the natural born pessimism all Philly fans have. BTW, how did the Phils do?

Eagles just don't play well in opening games. Being in Philly it's funny to watch the mood of people at the bar. They didn't seem too worried after tonights effort, especially with the Niners comming to town next week. The run defense i think has to be one area of concern though. Even with Trotter. The Phils won 4-1!!!

Good win for the 'coons....kept Owens and Westbrook in check, made McNabb feel a little pain, and made them earn every yard.
The most important stat...the Falcons own the tiebreaker. :)

the falcons just have a beatly physical defense. They deserved that game. Philly will still win 10+ games this year though. Also the ejection before the game hurt philly much more than atlanta. Every team should make a backup scrub go provoke a starting D-lineman of the opposing team before the game starts.

They didn't keep either one of them in check. Check the stats. The Eagles sorry kicker lost them the game.

I was thinking/wondering the same thing. I was watching ESPN pre-game when it happened and saw all the replays... I still haven't seen Trotter throw a punch. Saw him grab Mathis' face mask, saw Mathis throw a punch, saw Mathis spike Trotter's helmet. IMO stupid for the refs to throw either out.

Yes and no. One TD for Westbrook, no TD's for Owens. Agreed that both gained a lot of yards, but keep the two of them to 7 points and you're doing a pretty good job.
On Aikers, that was very unlike him, but to have to rely on TWO 49 yarders to win means you're not doing your job on offense IMO. McNabb had a lot to do with the loss. That backward pass to Westbrook (well, not really to him at all) was a rookie mistake. And the fumble on the sack was poor too. You HAVE to know that against the Falcons, if you take a three step drop, you're not going to have 7 seconds to throw the ball.

Didn't the birds start out 0-2 a couple of years ago before making the NFC CG? I wasn't too worried either, Atlanta is a good team, at their house on MNF...
I will say, WTF was that after the game? That was easily the WORST job of 'looking like you've been there before' I've ever seen in the NFL. You woulda thunk that they just won the NFC Championship. I have NEVER seen that kind of celebrating after a regular season game this early in the season. Worst was Mora, leading by example. It's OK for a coach to try a fire up the crowd, but give me a break. Surprised they didn't dump the Gatorade on him.

Yep, they were kept in check.

That's vintage Jim Jr. He's that way every game. That's why everyone in the ATL and why his players absolutely love him. He's a young excitable coach who gets "it" and is very real.

It is when it's the first game of the season. Leave the histrionics to the fans. That's JMHO.

That crowd in Atlanta was one of the loudest I've ever heard in an NFL -- or college game. They were on their feet from start to finish -- a great atmosphere. I think that was part of the reason that the Falcons didn't "act like they'd been there before" the atmosphere obviously had a big part in getting them excited and pumped up. It was also obvious that the Falcons had spent the majority of preseason and summer workouts thinking about this game, because it had been stuck in their heads from the NFC Championship. Add on the scuffle before the game and the crowd atmosphere and you can see why they acted like this. I don't like the Falcons -- but I would have celebrated like that too.
The NFL is the only excitable professional sport still worth watching. Should be a fun season!
By the way -- can ABC put a time limit on John Madden's ramblings? I constantly found myself trying to tune him out during crucial moments late in the game. It's better to have just two guys in the booth, but right now three's a crowd: Al Michaels, John Madden, and Jim Beam.

Atlanta pro sports fans are legendary front-runners. The Braves' playoff "crowds" are an embarrassment, and the Hawks (who bite big time) draw d*ck. Let 'em have their fun now. When the Falcons fall on hard times, you can throw a corn dog through the upper deck of the Georgia Dome without hitting anyone.

I really don't care about the fans acting like they won the Super Bowl, let them enjoy it. The players and especially the coach are the ones who I think were being silly. They even had caps and t-shirts made up for the players after the game. ;)

Reminds me of an idiot co-worker of mine who happens to be a Steelers fan. He was giving me ***** after the Super Bowl and bragging how "his" team beat both the Eagles and the Pats in the regular season. I simply asked him, "So when do you think they'll be hoisting that banner over Heinz Field?" :D

NOt worried about the Iggles. Typical McNabb sub-par performance early in the year. Shut Atlanta out the rest of the way after the shaky defensive start. Thought the Birds beat themselves more than anything the Falcons did--not that Atlanta doesn't have a good team. Probably the two best teams in the NFC--so one has to lose. If that were a December performance, I'd be concerned.
BTW Marcus--I was at the PHillies game and this kid Brito could be for real. Had a no-hitter with two out in the 5th. Had htters off balnce the whole time. Not optimistic about the WC, given Houston's schedule, but stranger things have happened. Phils will have to win at least at a 2:1 pace.

If Brito does a "Marty Bystrum" I will be very happy. Frankly, I'll only feel good about them if they win 90 games, but that will require a 14-4 finish.... Not bloody likely given the way they underperform against division rivals.

I'm going to Thursday's game. Myers is due to start that night. Boy, he's been "Jekyll and Hyde" all year. On Saturday night, his fastball was straighter than a grizzly's d*ck and the Marlins teed off on him all night.
