W&M top-10?! Griz at 13, moving UP 3 spots for being basically tied with ISU-o in the 4th?! Weber getting mileage out of the road W over UNI... WCU still very low. Nice of them to slot USD in after a pretty solid win in Fargo. xrolleyesx Tenn-Martin seems low. Albany still getting jobbed (only 1 point more than the team they trounced and well behind Fordham, who they also trounced and who also just lost to Georgetown...). I'm glad they're falling back to their old (terrible) ways. I was worried they actually had people paying attention doing the voting earlier in the year.

Albany I get. I had them in. Elon not getting any votes is a bit much, I had them barely in, but I can see them not being in yet. They have one win of note. One loss of note. But still vote worthy. Fordham still getting more than Albany is a bit much as well, but that FBS win is giving them the boost. I booted Fordham. But they are still close outside.

There are obviously other issues, but folks covered them already.

This poll is wild and egregious.

Nasty, nasty work.

If you want to see worse, look at some of the AGS polls. One numbskull even mentioned he dropped Holy Cross completely out. It’s moronic.

This one looks more serious but I’m with you, how does Elon not get ranked or votes. A loss to Wake and a tight loss to a playoff team from last year. 3-0 in the CAA. That’s a big miss.

agreed but stuff like this is commonplace every year and exactly what I tried to talk about before the year started and since it involved theocraticals and Monmouth I was told "just go win".. which is ironic b/c we didn't but the point is the same.. This "Recency bias" where you start stuff messes a lot of stuff up ad can and will screw someone come at large time.. but just replace Monmouth with "Albany"...since they had a poor record last year they were on nobodys radar sans some dudes here. Since Fordham was "good" last year they got the pre season benefit. Hell Even Hampton getting more than double the votes of Albany and guess why? B/c they beat "Richmond" and Richmond has a "good name".. Its all based on perception and pre season crap. So now if Albany splits with URI/UNH and finishes 8-4 and one of prior said teams finishes 8-3 or even 7-4 there is almost no chance Albany would be ranked ahead of one or both of them and may miss the playoffs all b/c they "started" nowhere. Let me say this again, Albany can win 8 games with 2 close FBS losses and most likely finish behind a team they beat solely b/c of poll recency bias and it could cost them a spot. Same will be for Holy Cross- Now I like HC and all but ASSUME they lose the PL to Lafayette, lose to Army and finishes 7-4. Based on where they "started" in the polls, perhaps undeservedly, they may actually make it at 7-4 b/c they would still prob be top 25 and "2 FBS losses". Lets say they do beat Army but lose to Lafayette they will 100% get in @ 8-3 with Yale and Army being the only good wins, SOLELY b/c of where they started. I am NOT saying 8-3 HC wouldnt deserve it, but I can almsotGUARANTEE you a 9-2 Lafayette team with only losses coming to Duke and HC (assuming they are competitive with HC) would NOT get in b/c the loss to HC would come 10/21 which would keep them in the low receiving votes status with Lehigh, Gergetown, Colgate ad even Fordham not being enough to get them ranked and it would ALL be based on where started. The Polls are trash and I feel FBS does a way better job at sorting it out quicker.

The good news is that the committee can make objective decisions without strictly going by the polls. A 9-2 Lafayette with losses to HC and Duke absolutely should and would end up in the playoffs and Top 25 IMO. Would be pretty much an identical resume to Fordham from last year but instead of a close loss to a good G5 team, a less competitive loss to a Top 25 P5 team. Also, teams in more highly ranked conferences will likely beat each other up and allow the 'Pards to make their way into the FCS rankings.

You mention the at-large scenarios for Holy Cross. At this point IMO our only path for an at-large is to beat Army. Plain and simple. I think at 7-4 we would need a VERY close loss to Army, a 10-0 season from Harvard and a few dominoes to fall our way to sneak in. A 7-4 at-large out of the Patriot would be unprecedented for sure.

Lots of truth in this post. There are a lot of teams that have “history” propelling them in the rankings even after poor performances. And that is especially true with where teams start and how slow they drop when they lose. WCU is riding high right now. If we lose to UTC this week or Furman in the game after, I bet we drop like a rock compared to a Big Sky or MVFC team losing to another lower ranked (or unranked) team.

We had a pollster get ripped for having NDSU ranked 6th last week. Looks like he was right. We have 28% of the top-25 from a single conference, and some of them have squeaked by against some of the worst teams in their own conference or have bad losses already. These rankings should be about this season and not previous years or vague, unprovable strength perceptions.

Part of what makes the AGS poll the best is a willingness to have wild swings in who is ranked (and how drastically they rise or fall). But the bias - especially for the early season polls - is real.

Agree on Lafayette being deserving at 9-2 but they may be compared to a couple different 8-3 CAA's or similar for a spot and if Lafayette's signature win ends up being Monmouth (assuming Princeton ends up being 3rd or worse in Ivy) and said "other 8-3 CAA's" beat us by more or just comparatively look better would only be a selection IMO based on "you know what lets give them a shot". I disagree on it being similar to Fordham last year a bit although not totally and we need to see how it plays out but I think the comittee liked the whole Demorat thing and putting up 50 any given day plus they did beat 3 CAA teams , albeit not good ones. Also Lafayette's "hypothetical" loss to Cross would have to be really close as Fordham's was. But I get it and rally no argument here..

as for Cross and an at large at 7-4- You guys are ranked 12 in nation right now. You will destroy Bucknell = 4-2 similar ranking. In the scenario we speak of you lose to The Pards = 4-3 but probably still ranked 19-24 area b/c then The Pards are essentially ranked. Beat Fordham who should still have some respect = 5-3 and still right there around 18-22. Crush Lehigh = 6-3 and similar ranking. Lose a close hard fought game to an Army team who is not half bad = 6-4 and may actually keep a top 25 ranking. Then beat The Hoyas and are probably right at 24-25. I am NOT saying being ranked means you make it, but the resume would be- Very good recent results in playoffs, Sluka and Chesey (it matters) played SDSU last year better than a CAA power, only losses are a 3 pt loss to ACC team, another FBS, a probably IVY champ and top 15 team and if its not them it means its yale who you smoked. and a Lafayette team who would probbaly finish 10-1 and also be top15-20. There would be no real good wins I guess but I feel the committee would put a 7-4 HC team with that resume in before most other 7-4's. So yes, some other stuff would have to break your way (montana falling apart, CAA only getting 3 at most 4 in and similar) but I think if any team in the country can get in at 7-4 its The Cross. But I wear goggles a lot of the time and have no clue how the rest of the country is viewed, But I feel the committe views cross NOT as a PL team fopr this year but more like a CAA darling or possible undeserved Big SKY who just sort of gets in no matter what.

agreed but stuff like this is commonplace every year and exactly what I tried to talk about before the year started and since it involved theocraticals and Monmouth I was told "just go win".. which is ironic b/c we didn't but the point is the same..

Holy Cross lost to a really good team in Harvard, it’s not like it was Columbia who beat them

Holy Cross will not be losing to Lafayette

is Lafayette the new Campbell now ? See ya in the new and improved Lil Darlin thread…

I know Laffy is much better but just slow down here
