Any idea what the Press Conf. is about? New coach? Dropping the program?

I'm guessing it will just be a coaching announcement.
Though the wording of that release does lead to speculation. heh.

I'll probably tune in, since they are in our conference and all.

I would guess they are ready to name a new coach.

New coach. ISU reconfirmed their commitment to football and the GFC this past season's media event. Football is not going anywhere. New coach is likely.

the sycamores would go non-scholly if they decided to make any drastic changes. but dropping the operation all together, not likely.

Alway been pretty bad since they went I-AA. They were solid in the early 80's ...9-4 in '83 ...9-3 in '84 did well in the play-off as well.

Has this been posted somewhere else?

ISU names Miles football coach (http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20071204/SPORTS06/71204053)

Miles was an assistant with Willingham at ND and Washington.

Let's hope first that Indiana State can average more than 3,200 people at its games... Of course winning some games will make that happen.

have they always been as bad as they are today and have been for the last few years?Their new coach Miles played wide receiver for the Sycamores from 1982 (when they started D-I)-86 and helped the team reach the playoffs twice. The 1984 team was ranked No. 1 for most of the season.

it's a tough cycle to break.
The program is in bad shape, which means not only will there be a lack of attendance, but I'd have to imagine that it would be next to impossible to get high quality recruits and transfers to come into the program.
And of course, without quality recruits and such, and without income from ticket sales, it's tough to improve the program.

How much are they paying?

Certainly they could attract a good coach looking for a challenge if they would pay enough.

Obviously what needs to happen is they need to win.

And they have to win with what they have.

THEN higher profile recruits will consider the school.

THEN more wins.

THEN more money is spent on football.

THEN more wins.

THEN facility improvements, more money ,etc. etc. etc.

But it takes a breakout year with what you've got to work with at the start.

Being in the Gateway is not going to allow that to happen.
