Yankees and Red Sox fans should be equally happy at Steinbrenner. They guy drew a line in the sand, told the Twins that the offer has a deadline, and now both the Yankees and Red Sox won't have to worry about things dragging out even longer than they have by forcing the teams to outbid each other. Cheers to you Hankyson.

Yank$ are trying to bully the Twins, I think the Twins GM is going to dig in even harder now. Billy Beane gave him some help when he asked for the same type of package the Twins want for Haren.

He can dig in if he wants, but if Hank is serious about a take it or leave it package, then he will get less from the Red Sox, since they and the Yankees are the only serious bidders left.

Or he holds him off, loses him as a FA and gets some compensatory picks in return. How much do you think that would piss off Minnesota fans?

But you gotta admit... the rest of MLB (since Billy Bean) has figured out how to deal with the Yankees and Red Sox...xlolx

(and good for them) and I'm a Red Sox fan...

What was that again, that Hank said about A-Rod?

"We're not going to back down," Steinbrenner said. "It's goodbye."

i would love to see the twins pull a rabbit out and sign him long term

it would certainly send the right message to the fans.

"hey, thanks for the new ballpark, in return, we're using that revenue to lock up the most exciting pitcher in the game long term"

Its not the deadline that's tampering, its saying the Yankees want Santana.

I think there has to be some reasonableness here though - its not like he used actual $'s about how much he wanted him (e.g. "I think he'll have 25 million reasons to like us). That would be tampering.

Except it was Arod who came back, wagging his tail without Boras, and taking $25 million less than the $300 million package that the Yankees had previously said was on the table. xthumbsupx

Hank changed his tune when A-Rod opened up conversation with the Yankees.

"After spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the Yankees regarding my future with the organization," Rodriguez said.

"Prior to entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees ownership. We know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and happiness."

I read an article where it shows that after Revenue sharing A-Rods $25 million will actually cost the Yankees about $32 million a year...

Wow..!!!

As one GM said it...
his financial demands put every team interested in him over the salary cap limit, so those teams we're forced to examine what they were really going to end up paying for him per year...
and no one but the Yankee's we're ultimately interested

A-Rod is where he belongs - with the only team that can afford him

Maybe that's what you think.

But if you were following this in the New York press, the things Arod did and said to get back to the bargaining table would tell you otherwise.

Arod asked to speak again the the Yankees. The Yankees said not with Boras. And so Boras stayed home. Arod instead went to his friend at Goldman Sachs to get this deal done.

Goldman Sachs wanted this deal to get done and it worked behind the scenes to get Arod (a client) back to the Yankees.

Why would Goldman Sachs care? Well, they are partners with the Yankees in the YES Network and own 40% of the network said to be worth $3.5 billion.

Agreed...
A-Rod had nowhere else to go and the Yankee's knew it..!!!

1) They told Boras to get F___d
2) They told A-Rod he was too expensive
3) They told everybody else in MLB to help themselves...

Brilliant..!!! xnodx

Didn't A-Rod blink first? I thought Hank handled the situation pretty well. xnodx

Looks like he is a less emotional Steinbrenner. That could be good news for Yankee fans.
