By the time they would get home, it would be this evening which means they would basically only have two days to dissect film, practice, and let the trainers heal the injuries from Saturday's game, and then they would have to fly back to the midwest on Thursday at the latest. In addition, these kids are student athletes which have finals starting this Friday and will have to miss school on Monday already. That puts a tremendous amount of pressure on these kids. I can't imagine anyone, especially a fellow CAA fan, would object to moving this game to Saturday to at least somewhat mitigate a decided disadvantage. I would hope that any team in this situation would be granted the same consideration.

You're correct - Gateway rules did prevent UNI from sharing tape of SIU with the UD coaching staff. However, again, due to the weather/travel issues, the NCAA stepped in and requested that UNI bypass that rule, and they did and they did give SIU tape to UD.
