Been a Navy fan since Joe Bellino (look it up, young'ns). Will be rooting for Navy, but the best all around football player on that field may be #5 of Army, Jeremy Trimble. Saw him in HS vs. LBKid and he can do anything on a football field. If he was a RB, he'd be a stud. If they needed him to kick FGs, he would be good from 40 yards. As it is, he's a tremendous WR and punt returner.

The Ricketts is also razor blades. The Navy is holding one DDG---Charles F. Adams DDG-2 from the scrap heap, but no group has managed to raise enough $$ to make it into a memorial.

California--- that was a Virginia Class CGN, right ?

Uhhhh, No.

It was the lead ship of a big ol' two ship class (California & South Carolina), then they got smart and radically changed the design for the Virgina class CGN's to follow (Virgina, Texas, Mississippi & Arkansas).

I cross-decked to the Texas for about a week, and it was MUCH nicer, better laid out, sleeker lines, etc.

Little bit of trivia: Outside of the USS Long Beach, the USS California was the largest non-carrier combatant in the fleet until it was decommissioned in 1999. 596 feet long, crew of 600. 51 officers, 549 enlisted....

Didn't know that about the California. That was a big ship.

A bit of nuke-boat trivia, my buddy served on the Triton, SSN 586 (http://www.navybuddies.com/ssn/ssn586.htm) a one-ship class nuke boat. It had the shortest active service (about 8 years) of any nuke ever made.

The Navy said the the Triton class of radar picket subs was obsolete so it was decommissioned early. However, I wondered why such a big boat was not converted to another mission.

My buddy said the real reason the Triton was laid up after only eight years was that it was a hot boat...

Navy should win on paper; but for some reason I feel Army will somehow pull this one out. It's been awhile for the Black Knights of the Hudson. Record is worse than Navy's but they seem to have played hard this year...and it is a game where emotion can be a factor.

THen they're still idiots. That guy just wins. Usually with inferior talent compared to who they play. And now has to recruit with the "oh, by the way, you'll have to serve 5 years in the military after you graduate" yoke around his neck.

I would think a Big-12 school would salivate at the idea of PJ running their program. He'd have Nebraska back to prominence in two years.

While I would seriously discount the possibility of the CinC Trophy moving up the Hudson any time soon, don't count Air Force out. Navy lost to Delaware and Notre Dame (by two points) while Air Force beat the Irish by twenty-something. Plus, Air Force didn't lay down and die in AF vs Navy like Army did in Army vs Navy. Air Force also whooped UNLV, a team which lost to Wisconsin by one touchdown. Don't count the Falcons out any time soon.

Navy had lost to Notre Dame 45 years in a row, so beating Notre Dame by a small margin was a good first step. Look for them to win by a bigger margin sometime soon.

It also took playing the worst Notre Dame team ever for Navy to get that win. I wouldn't expect this to suddenly become a competitive series all of a sudden.
