Yeah they're still celebrating that 5-1 victory over Germany in 2000 and their World Cup in '66. xlolx I was also rooting pretty hard for Scotland to eliminate Italy (that semi-final still stings) but it wasn't to be. xsmhx

I'm thinking of asking for a jersey for Christmas but can't decide if I want Crouch or Gerrard. I'm a big Crouch fan, but I don't know if he'll even be there next year. Gerrard would be cool simply because my first name is Gerard and Gerrard is pretty close.

Hands down - Gerrard. Crouch is a novelty and will fade into obscurity. Gerrard will go down as one of England's best!

Arsenal outplayed by Sevilla as the Spaniards now lead the Group. Gunners have struggled on the road some this year, especially in the Champions League. I fully expect them to pound Steaua in Ashburton Grove to close the Group stage, but they really seem to have blown their shot at winning it. I suppose Slavia could tie Sevilla and Arsenal win on differential, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. We'll see how the draw treats them for the Round of 16.

And the match is all but over...Torres strikes again late in the second to give them a 2-1 lead. Then Stepanov fouls Gerrard in the box, giving up a penalty kick, 3-1 lead for Liverpool. :(

We beat Porto in last year's group stage, and while any team that wins their Champions League group is good, you can't tell me you'd look at that list and say, "No, I don't want Porto, I'd much rather face AC Milan or Barcelona"

The second round match-ups have been announced.

Arsenal vs. AC Milan xeekx
AS Roma vs. Real Madrid
Celtic vs. Barcelona
Fenerbahce vs. Sevilla
Liverpool vs. Inter Milan xeekx
Lyon vs. Man Utd
Olympiakos vs. Chelsea
Schalke vs. FC Porto :)

Arsenal vs AC Milan is worthy of the final, let alone the first round knock out. Unfortunately for Liverpool, they didn't draw one of the 'chumps' ;) , but drew the number one ranked club team in the world. And FC Porto could have drawn a much more challenging opponent, although Schalke is more than capable of making some noise.

Maybe I'll have to head back over to Porto in early '08 to catch a CL match...xreadx
