3-letter systems are a complete waste of time & a joke. Here's 3 reasons to show that this should be junked immediately:

1. The #1 ranked team in the country is Missouri, which is an UNDERDOG to Oklahoma in the Big 12 championship??

2. The highest rated SEC team won't even be playing in the conference championship game.

3. OSU fans feel they'd have a much better chance of winning against WVU (in the NC game), than against USC (Rose Bowl).

Thank you Roy Kramer.

That isnt the half of it... why the hell should the number one team in the country go play an extra game when the only thing the can do is lose their shot at the title... if they win nothing changes... stupid

Georgia should have beaten Tennessee. That has nothing to do with the
BCS.

BCS has been and always will be CRAP. For one thing the national champion doesn't have to prove it on the field. To be the best you have to beat the best. If the NFL was run like the BCS a 9 win Pittsburgh would never have been given a chance to win that Super Bowl. Why don't they just do a freaking playoff xeyebrowx xcoffeex

Agreed, although I hate the argument that you need to win your conference if you're playing in the title game? Why? Let's say S. Florida hadn't lost more than 1 conference game, but had lost 2 other OOC games instead. A 9-3 (7-1 conf) Bulls team would be the Big East champ, Why should that lessen WVU's credentials to be #1 or #2 in the BCS?

Remember 1984? In the final polls, Washington was #2 at 11-1 after winning the Orange Bowl, not the Rose Bowl. USC went to Rose Bowl by virtue of beating the Huskies earlier in the season and finishing with one loss in the Pac-10 (7-1 to the Huskies 6-1). If BYU had lost to Michigan in the Holiday Bowl, UDub would have been #1, while not winning their conference!

Note: That's not a typo either, Washington only played 7 conf. games in '84 to USC's 8. In the years after Arizona and Arizona St. joined the league, it was a while before everybody could play an 8 game league schedule. OOC agreements for games were made years in advance and very seldom broken back then.

I agree, but it's all about the $$$$. That's why alot of people in the SEC don't like Tennessee going to Atlanta, but they did what they had to do. I don't like the fact that the Big 10 ends so early, that kind of throws teams out of whack.

AGREE 100%!!!

It seems like everyone watching these games from a fans perspective wants to see some sort of playoff. I sure do.

But if you are going to maintain the BCS system, it would be fairly easy to remedy, put on a slightly more even playing scale, and bring more teams into the fold:

1) FORCE all BCS conferences to expand to 12 teams
2) FORCE all BCS conferences to have a conference championship game since ALL teams in consideration for the BCS should play the same number of games.

SEC, ACC and Big 12 remain the same.
Conference Shifts:
Big Ten (adds 1): Syracuse
Big East (adds 5): Memphis, UCF, Army, Navy, ECU
PAC-10 (adds 2): Utah, BYU

Want more changes...
3) Expand the BCS by 1 more game so that there are 12 total teams included
4) INCLUDE the MWC into the BCS
MWC (adds 4): Boise St., Fresno St., Hawaii, UTEP

Sample BCS based on current standings:
Championship: WVU vs Missouri
Rose (B10 vs P10): Ohio St. vs USC
Orange (ACC vs *BE): VPI vs Georgia
Fiesta (*B12 vs MWC): Arizona St. vs Hawaii
Sugar (SEC vs *at-large): LSU vs Kansas
Cotton Bowl (* vs *): BC vs Illinois

sure would be nice to see this in 2 weeks

1 Missouri vs 8 USC
4 Georgia vs 5 Kansas
3 Ohio St. vs 6 Virginia Tech
2 W.Virginia vs 7 LSU

But I'm not in charge so guess not. 16 teams would be asking too much since they have conference championship games.

16 would still be better so Hawaii could get in and get beat.

You could do an 8 team playoff with 6 BCS conference champions and 2 at large teams or a 16 team playoff with all 11 FBS conference champions and 5 at large teams

Why not do a playoff? Because the coaches and college presidents don't want one.

A president likes being able to invite their large donors to an annual trip, hoping to squeeze out more donations from them.

A coach likes to be able to be called a champion of something. In a playoff, 15 teams end their season with a loss, and one with a victory. In a bowl system, there could be 32 bowl games, meaning 32 coaches can be called a champion -- of the Rose Bowl, the Independence Bowl or the defunct-dot-com bowl. A coach that consistently makes the playoffs and loses in the 2nd round, "chokes under the pressure" of the playoffs. A coach who consistently brings his team to a bowl game and wins more than half of them, gets a lifetime contract and a stadium named after him.

A playoff would be great for the players and the fans. Unfortunately, they don't run the sport.

Or you could do an 8 team playoff with no autobids, while we're wishing for things.
