What do you think of a rule that removes the automatic qualifier from any conference that has been unable to win at least one playoff game in any five year period. The auto bid could be re-instated after a member of the league in question won a playoff game as an at-large selection. Such a rule would currently have withdrawn the auto bid from the MEAC and the Ohio Valley.

Yep, I'm sure glad that two OVC teams got in while ZERO PFL teams got in.... Afterall, it has only been 15 years straight that a PFL team has not been invited to the playoffs....

Yep, a darn good system....

The problem with such a system is that the selection committee sets match-ups based on money and politics rather than competitiveness or fairness. If the committee matched the MEAC champion against the OVC champion then at least one of these conferences would get a win in the playoffs. As it is, the MEAC and OVC champs usually are sent on the road against the CAA or SoCon - they're not going to get many wins that way.

This bit is getting old. Pony up and pay for some schollies. Then schedule some better teams.

What's old is the OVC having the nerve to submit proposals to limit OTHER leagues' participation in the playoffs.

As for an OVC-MEAC playoff matchup, of course - that way at least ONE of them could get a playoff win.xrolleyesx

So let's say they do this...then the next season the NEC and PFL get the AQ. The powers that be then give an at-large to an MEAC and OVC school, and matchup OVC-PFL, NEC-MEAC. If the OVC and MEAC win, under your scenario, they get the AQ back, and the NEC and PFL lose them? That's not fair to those leagues...

No. Do not remove automatic qualifiers like any of this. Once we start doing that we are treading hard into BCS territory.

We need to do it like D-II. Add this weekend to be 4 games. Add AQ to NEC, Pioneer for now, Big South and Great West later. Add in 4 new at large teams. The bottom plays the bottom this weekend, then you start into the normal 16 team playoff next weekend.

Again, simple, D-II does it with less teams in their division, we should be able to manage this too.

I don't think you should get an AQ if conference members don't all play each other. If you don't, there's not a true champion.

Big deal. CAA still would have gotten 5 at-large berths. Just means EIU would have stayed home. :D
