Good god, don't be so hard on the guy. Nebraska is a place that has expectations that maybe need to be rethought. When you fire a coach that gets 9 wins in a season, I think maybe you need to calm down just a bit. I agree that Callahan needed to go, but he surely isn't a loser. If he was, why would he have coached in the NFL AND at a prestigious Div. I school?

I gotta agree with the Bobcat on this one - look at it from the "he's a human being" standpoint. Nebraska's days were numbered years ago when they gave up the option.

Callahan's the one that changed the offense.

Exactly - what did Nebraska expect when hiring someone who runs a west coast style of offense?

The AD that fired Solich after what turned out to be a pretty successful season should be at the top of your ***** list.

I agree 100%. But there are good coaches who are in bad situations. It was time for a change only because of the simplistic nature of the fans. They want to win and they want to win the only way they know: running the ball. While Turner Gill would be a great option, I think Pelini has the inside track on that job since his former boss Osbourne will make the hire. A guy I'd like to see there would be our old FCS pal Paul Johnson of Navy.

Bill Calahan was given a Super Bowl team in Oakland, and he managed to turn them into a 4-12 team the next year. He gets a great team in Nebraska, and he goes 27-22, which is mediocre for a team in a BCS conference, and terrible for a school with a great football tradition like Nebraska. This guy either can't coach or is at the wrong level to be coaching. He should either go back to being an offensive coordinator somewhere or should be a coach at a lower level like a MAC school or an FCS school. Very fast drop from being in the Super Bowl in his first season.

I was very offended when Jim Rome a few weeks ago said he should go coach at Weber State.

I don't want 'im.

Jim Rome is a pr!ck. He said nearly the same thing about the Texas Tech coach after he commented on Big XII officiating: "Hey___ Why don't you go coach at some Big Sky school or something"

I wish Jim Everett would kick his punk ass again.

Agreed. Jim Rome is a loudmouth just like Colin Coward err, I mean Cowherd. They both think that just because they have a microphone or a camera in front of them they can shoot off their mouth any time they want. Then again, people will listen to these boneheads because they're controversial. Being a loudmouth sells I guess, unfortunately.

I was being a bit facetious. I like Jim Rome a good deal of the time. When he is actually analyzing stuff he's generally pretty good. Good interviewer, too. Is annoying when he becomes the Loudmouth, but I can live with that.

Callahan's the one that changed the offense.

Offensive systems don't matter that much. The fundamentals of blocking like a Mack truck, tackling like a sledgehammer, and chasing down the ball like a rabid dog are what matters. Nebraska's offense was actually adequate this year, had the defense been any good. Still, I prefer a smash-mouth team that attacks the line of scrimmage.
