Here is a historical record of how McNeese has done against some of the current and past FCS members. List yours.
The schools with asterisks, of course, are no longer in FCS.
Unfortunately, many of the (0-1) records came as a result of playoff losses by McNeese.

*Appalachian State (1-0) The Cowboys won in Boone (big upset) shortly before ASU went to FBS.
Cal Poly (0-1)
Eastern Illinois (3-0) The Cowboys and Panthers will meet in Illinois this season.
Eastern Washington (0-1)
*Georgia Southern (2-1)
*Jacksonville State (7-1) These teams were once conference members in the Southland Football League.
*James Madison (1-1)
*Marshall (2-1)
Missouri State (4-2)
Montana State (1-1)
Montana (3-3) - All the victories were won by the home team.
Northern Arizona (0-1)
Portland State (2-1)
South Dakota State (1-1)
*Troy (7-4) These teams were once conference members in the Southland Football League.
Delaware (2-1)
Idaho (3-0)
Maine (0-2)
New Hampshire (0-1)
Northern Iowa (4-8)
South Dakota (1-0)
UT-Martin (3-1)
Villanova (1-0)

Wake Forest 11-7Figured out a way to do this from the FU Source data…but it was still A LOT of tedious fiddlin’ - so FUBeAR decided to gain some insight by grouping the data…

Grouped into current Divsion / Group / FCS Conference and results calculated. Results are calculated over ‘life’ of series regardless of what division either Team was in when the game was played. These are grouped to the best of FUBeAR’s off-the-top-of-his-furry-head knowledge. If you see anything wrong and care to tell me, I’ll move it and recalculate…maybe.

Can't vouch for this 100% but..

NDSU is 85-7 (.924) against OOC FCS opponents since starting in the FCS (unlike the NCAA, I include the four probationary years). NDSU is 36-3 (.923) versus OOC FCS opponents in the playoffs.

Only 3 of the 50 OOC FCS teams that NDSU has played has a W. NDSU's record against those three teams is 13-4 (.765) with two of those losses coming in the playoffs versus the eventual national champion.

Just curious - without too much difficulty, can you break that down into Home & Away W-L record w/percentages?

Just curious - without too much difficulty, can you break that down into Home & Away W-L record w/percentages?

Regular season:

11-4 Away
37-0 Home
1-0 "Neutral"

Playoffs:
1-2 Away
27-1 Home
9-0 Neutral

Since the initial struggles with scheduling during the probationary period, NDSU has tried to only do away games with top programs - NDSU's OOC road games since being playoff eligible have been against Sam Houston State, Montana, Weber State, Towson, Delaware, and Eastern Washington (went 4-2). NDSU is 6-3 vs P5 teams in away games for comparison.

In the playoffs, NDSU only lost to the eventual national champion in away games - and it makes sense to have a losing record because winning on the road is hard enough but in the playoffs, the lesser team is supposed to be the one traveling.

Regular season:

11-4 Away

Playoffs:

So…

* 86% of the bizuns OOC losses have been Away games.

* And, the bizuns have lost 67% of the Playoff games they have played at an Opponent’s Home stadium.

* And, less than 20% of the bizuns overall OOC games have been Away games.

* And, less than 8% of the bizuns OOC Playoff games have been Away games.

Got it.

Well, when talking about NDSU OOC losses, you are already dealing with a extremely small sample size which makes it improbable that you could conclude anything with any amount of certainty.

But here's a pro-tip for free: If you don't want to play road playoff games, make your conference one of the toughest in the FCS, win at least twice as often against P5 teams as you lose, and win 90% of your regular season games. It also helps to go undefeated.

Edit: I hate to waste this query

OOC Teams NDSU has beat since 2010 in regular season away games: Kansas, Minnesota, Colorado State, Kansas State, Weber State, Iowa State, Iowa, Eastern Washington, Delaware, and Towson

OOC Teams NDSU has lost to since 2010 (regular season away games): Montana and Arizona.

OOC Teams NDSU has beat to since 2010 (away playoff games): Montana State

OOC Teams NDSU has lost to since 2010 (away playoff games): Eastern Washington (in OT to the eventual national champion), Sam Houston (by 4 to the eventual national champion)

Harvard (Harvard's record follows the team name):

NOW D-III:
Amherst - 24-1
Bates - 23-0
Bowdoin - 17-0
Centre College - 2-1
UChicago - 2-0 (both games played in the waning years of Maroons football pre-WWII)
Coast Guard - 3-0
Colby - 3-0
Geneva - 0-1
Middlebury - 4-0-1
MIT - 15-0 (19th century)
Renssaeler - 1-0
Rochester Yellow Jackets - 1-0
Springfield - 14-0
Trinity Bantams - 3-0 (do not confuse with the Trinity Tigers of Texas...)
Tufts - 15-4
Washington and Jefferson - 1-0
Washington St. Louis - 1-0
Wesleyan - 17-1
Williams College - 30-0
WPI - 2-0 (19th century)

NOW FBS:
Army - 19-18-2
BC - 3-0-1
Buffalo Bulls - 1-1
UConn - 1-0 (1946!)
Florida Gators - 3-0
UGA - 1-0
Indiana Hoosiers - 2-0
UMass - 11-8-1 (Harvard lost last two games in this series so far, and with a losing record in UMass' I-AA days.)
Michigan - 4-4 (Wow...)
Navy - 1-1-3 xeyebrowx
Tar Heels - 2-0
Ohio U - 3-0
Oregon Ducks - 1-0 (Harvard's ONLY bowl game was a win!)
Penn State - 3-0-2
Purdue - 0-1
Rutgers - 2-3
Stanford - 0-1
Texas Longhorns - 1-0
Vandy - 1-0
UVa - 8-1

EX-FCS:
BU - 8-4 (Harvard lost its last two games in this series, both in the I-AA era.)
Northeastern (I refer to this team as the Boston Huskies here on AGS) - 7-1 (in the same year those Huskies shut down Ohio U, we lost a close game to them 17-14.)
Vermont - 2-0

PL:
Bucknell - 6-3-1
Colgate -5-4
Fordham - 2-2
Georgetown - 5-0
Holy Cross - 45-26-2
Lafayette - 18-3
Lehigh - 8-8

PFL:
Davidson - 3-0 (last was in 1953!)
USD Toreros - 3-1
Valpo - 1-0 (1920)

OTHER CURRENT FCS PLAYING TEAMS:
Howard - 2-0
Maine - 11-0 (none since the League of Nations days xbawlingx)
Merrimack - 1-0
UNH - 7-0 (none since US started in WWII)
Rhody - 3-2
W&M - 4-4-2

So Harvard is a combined 140-2 all-time against Amherst, Bates, Bowdoin, Springfield, MIT, Wesleyan and Williams. If AGS existed in the 1890's, we REALLY would've been screaming about how you guys needed to upgrade the OOC schedule!

There wasn't. This was the norm back in those days, probably until the late 1920's or early 1930's. The infamous 222-0 Georgia Tech-Cumberland game was sometime around WWI.

I wonder if any team travel took place by horse and buggy back then...or was it all rail?

Trains were everywhere by then. It was the interstate of it's day. Pretty sure anything out of town would be by rail probably into the 50s for most schools. Maybe semi local games were by some other means. It's a cool topic though.

Regardless of transportation and how it has improved, things haven't changed much as far as scheduling goes for some of the schools in that region. Rarely are teams west of the Mississippi on the schedules.

Wonder how Yale got to Hanover from WRJ that first game in the 1880's.

By the way, Yale Field, the predecessor of the Yale Bowl was across the street from the Bowl's current location. It was probably a few miles from the train station. I assume a lot of walking was involved in getting to those early games for players and fans.

I think I had a sentence all screwed up in an earlier post. Sam Houston State (2009), Southern Illinois (2005), Montana (2015), and Montana State (2005) are the OOC teams that have regular season wins against NDSU (all away games.)

It seems like NDSU must've lost a regular season game at home against an OOC opponent since joining DI, but I just can't think of it at the moment.

You guys can't even get Villanova to put you on their schedule even ONCE. Forget W&M, who would go back to making VMI an annual rivalry game in a heartbeat before ever agreeing to any sort of long-term scheduling agreement with Georgetown.

I would like to see more games between the Ivy League and William & Mary.

I went to both games against W&M. The 1983 game was played in Norfolk (The Oyster Bowl) and both teams showed up wearing white uniforms. A bad Yale team (1-9) lost 26-14.

In 1987 the rematch was at the Bowl the week after Yale played in Hawaii. Yale won 40-34 scoring the winning TD with under a minute to play. That was the first hint that Yale was a pretty good team in 1987. I remember being jet lagged having returned from Hawaii the day before.

Prior to joining the Yankee Conference in the early 1990's W&M was a I-AA independent for a while. They had more freedom to schedule back then. Now, they have 3 OOC games, one of which is always an FBS game. And up until about 10 years ago, VMI was an annual opponent. So for about a 20 year period, the Tribe really only had one open date each year to play with. More recently, they've had series with Lafayette, Colgate, Norfolk State and Campbell (who will soon be a CAA opp.). Would love to see W&M play Penn or Princeton again.
