Nice interview with coach Raymond, although the ESPN commentator got a few facts wrong. Coach Nelson (who also played for Coach Crisler at Michigan) was the one who brought the winged helmets to UD. He also brought Tubby to UD as an assistant. Tubby was a much better baseball player than a football player and was UD's head baseball coach for a number of years.

When it comes down to it, DSU has not shown ANYTHING that can provide evidence that they could ever compete with Delware this year. Delaware is simply the far more prepared, and frankly more talented team.

Delaware State had a good season, but they just aren't one of the nation's top 16 teams, and the Blue Hens have exposed that. It's a simple truth.

This is like a "cupcake" game in a pre-conference schedule. Surely there are better and more deserving teams. And what about 5 teams from one conference making the playoffs. Sounds fishy, or "fowl" to me.

I still would love to see this become a more regular occurrence. Delaware simply was the better team today. Flacco made some unbelievable throws. Heck the guy that caught the first TD came VERY close to going out of bounds before making that catch. I think he has a chance to make a lot of noise on Sundays. On to Round 2 for the Blue Hens and here's hoping that these two can work harder to make a annual or biannual (I think that means every 2 years) game and not just a random lucky draw for the playoffs

The Delaware mascot reminded me, I spent a week in Newark one night long, long ago.

I spent some time in the Sleep Inn across from the campus...Was at the 2004 Delaware-Lafayette first round game but didnt stay @ Sleep. Everything was sold out!

Unless some of the posters commenting have coached and played where they can offer:

-talent was in favor of UD
-execution by DSU was awful
-nerves go the best of DSU
-DSU was slower
-DSU won their games in dramatic fashion against weaker opponents.
-DSU did not lose because of penalties
-DSU's TO's were of both the unforced (self-hurt) and FORCED (other team made plays) variety.

If you are a journalist, I would agree that what you wrote would be the way to go.

As a football FAN...and students of the game, many of us are beyond disappointed.

So you are telling me, that it is unreasonable to assume that this game is a joke because Delaware has basically put up 44 unanswered points on the supposed #10 team in the nation? That this number ten team has not effectively ran, passed, or really done anything against a lower ranked team?

My reasoned thought is telling me that the number ten team in FCS should be able to at least score ONE touchdown...or even ONE field goal against a lower ranked opponent. Not get completely blown out, where your only points come after the Blue Hens took out their first string.

I can understand you trying defend the Hornets players, they have undoubtedly worked hard this year. But they have just played flat out horrible.
