These are the same people who vote in polls and end up on Playoff Selection Committees. We’re very familiar with their work. They know stuff. They just don’t (really) know Football.

Understand everyone loving their own QB, but FUBeAR, speaking as objectively as possible, wouldn’t trade Huff for any 2 others on this list…or any 2 on any list of FBS QB’s either. He’s the David Durden (search NFL Draft 2023 Project X) of QB’s.


Hiers fully healed up? Did we ever get full, specific disclosure around the details of his hand/wrist injury incurred vs. Mercer in the final regular season game that seriously put the kibosh on Samford’s Playoff hopes in 2022?

Michael incurred a broken wrist vs Mercer. He tried to go vs SELA but hit his hand on a helmet and it was totally numb. He was nowhere close to 100% vs NDSU but made a courageous attempt. During recent spring training he was said to be completely well and in mid-season form. Speaking objectively as possible, I wouldn't trade Michael Hiers for any other FCS QB and maybe not many FBS QBs.

Going to guess Sam Herder followed our previous thread on this same topic .. top returning FCS QBs where UNIs Theo Day was mentioned as just outside the top 10 despite being the top statistical QB (sans dual threat) in the MVFC. And that guy offering up a very tepid, he "has a chance to be a good QB next year" .. or something similar. Or maybe Herder already knew well how good of a pure QB Theo Day was already.

My ISUr QB Zach Annexstad had a very sporadic year last year, but also had very little support, other than at TE .. no real run game or healthy RBs, no established WRs, and a patchwork OL. We did have 2 good TEs (48 catches, 430 yds) .. but theyre both gone, Taula being a UDFA. Yet Annexstad had some very good halves and a couple good games. There were several games where he was on fire the 1st half, and Spack would shut down the pass game if it was close game. For our UNI game, he actually statistically outplayed Theo Day that day. If Annexstad support is improved as much we think/hope this year, plus another year in a new OC/system, he could make some noise this fall.

Good find and very interesting data and analytsics. It is purely statistical but objective at least. Quick review of the various metrics is impressive. Though saw nothing to indicate it is adjusting for strength of schedule ... I didn't sign up, so could only see so much. But it seems pretty comperehensive other than possibly not adjusting for SOS.

In any case, it takes a lot into account .. not just obvious passing stats, but also evaluates running stats, and the largely ignored, "how much and how well" they dealt with pocket pressure, including timing in the pocket, which is impressive if they have stats to assess things like coverage sacks or OL breakdown .. not sure it could know if QB was holding onto ball too long, or not sensing pressure early enough. Buut still a lot of good stats considered and being scored into an index. And UNI's Theo Day was #1, HC's Sluka #2, EKU's McKinney #3 tied w/ Idaho's McCoy and NCC's Richard. Then W&Ms Wilson at #6, followed by SDSU's Gronowski at #7.

Definntely thorough and objective.
