13 inches so far today and still snowing. Temps this week highs 32-34. 36 high on Saturday but at noon kickoff time it will be 28. I've seen that every year, it's 10 degrees colder at kickoff than the high of the day which doesn't occur till about 4:30-5:00.

I remember one year going to APP playing in freezing rain, 28 degrees and frozen field. A very big disadvantage for a southern school like Wofford going to Montana this year but at least Montana's field is heated.

Honest question. Do you think that hurts you if you have to travel to a cold weather destination? I just remember how cold your players looked in Newark in 2003.

Well, if we did expect a cold weather game, we are fortunate enough to have Wartburg College up the road in Waverly, and they've let us have some outside practices there to get used to the conditions. Farley's got us covered! xthumbsupx

Not sure a couple practices in cold weather is the same thing.

It could just be conincidence, but since 1990 in the playoffs...

1990 - UNI lost at Boise State
1991 - won at home, lost at Marshall
1992 - went 2-1 all at home
1993 - lost at Boston U
1994 - lost at Montana
1995 - won at Murray, lost at Marshall
1996 - won two at home, lost at Marshall
2001 - won at WIU, at home, lost at Montana
2001 - won at home, lost at Delaware
2005 - won at home, at UNH, at TxSt lost in Nooga

That's 8-1 at home and 4-8 on the road (with two of the road wins being fairly mild climates). This isn't inteded to be smack. I'm seriously wondering if playing in a dome hurts you when you have to travel. For all I know those are normal home and away percentages for playoffs. I'd have to do a lot more number crunching to see if that's the case. xpeacex

Were they notorious for that? I just know that most people are uncomfortable outside (intended xsmiley_wix ) of their normal environment. I'm sure playing IN the dome for outside teams is just as strange.

Missoula weather has been downgraded. Local weather which is usually much more accurate than weather channel says cold all week.

Good post, hen. I really don't know what the answer is. I do know that all teams have a big advantage when they play at home in the playoffs......maybe even more so for UNI and Montana.

My EKU Colonels played there in '95 before the artificial turf was installed. There was no cover on the "grass" field and it had rained the previous two days. The Grizzlies' kickoff landed on our 2 yard line and stopped in the mud. We never recovered. (Of course the fact that our players had never played before such a loud crowd and the fact that Montana was the better team might have had something to do with our defeat.)

Game weather will be "perfect" (says so in the official box scores for UNI home games. haha) in Cedar Falls.

Might be a tad chilly for the tailgating though. Not terrible, but chilly.
