That game was a lot more stressful than it should've been. That fake punt really changed the momentum. A couple of bad calls may have hurt us - a pass interference on a ball Yao Ming couldn't have reached, and a fumble that I didn't see but that I heard was very questionable (anyone see it on TV and can tell me what happened, I was getting a sausage) - but Fordham was good and they looked like they might pull it off for a while. Bring on SIU!

I'm still thawing out from that freezing cold, by the way.

Congrats UMass. Exciting game, was 35-35 in the 4th. Fordham played well but was a bit undersized on the DL. Heavyweight fight with many momentum swings. Coen had good time in the pocket. Both team's receivers were playmakers. UMass receiver Rancher is an NFL talent. He made some great plays including a tremendous TD catch in a full out dive. Anyway, thanks Rams for a great season and ill root for Umass to go all the way.

Also, I knew going in that UMass had some great offensive weaponry and I was concerned about how our young defense would do. We were starting a lot of 18, 19, and 20 years old against a much bigger, older, experienced offense with a number of I-A transfers and fifth-year seniors.

We didn't do well defensively. But it's good thing that our guys saw that offense. I think that this wil help them understand the level of commitment that will be necessary to win playoff games. Getting there was nice but next time I want to win

If you're talking about the fumble on the pass play...it was coming out before he hit the ground...it was a good call...xbawlingx

I was impressed with the overall refereeing of the game...I thought it was pretty good, considering what I had heard before the game...

And I watched the entire game...

I guess you answered my question. SoCon ref's did well.

I will give them their due,and congrats to the SOCon ref's, you came through. Now i hope they continue to do well. I wish we could get that crew a couple of times next year. xsmiley_wix

Good Luck UMASS , we got alittle this week.xthumbsupx

Do I think Fordham is much better then I thought... No... Do I think the final score was different then I thought... well Fordham scored quite a few more points then i figured but the short field can help that out. We only missed my final prediction by 7 points so I wasnt so far off. Its not like I predicted a NE Pats style vicotry.

Double kudos from this Appy!! I had my hands full sitting at The Rock watching the Dukes' offense take it to our defense, but kept tabs on this one all afternoon. This was a great game as well. Nice job Rams!! Man - I would love to see you guys on our OOC schedule.

Give 'em hell next year!! xthumbsupx

Yeah, he only comes out for a win...The funniest thing I saw on the UMass-Fordham gamethread was when Fordham tied it at 35, another poster was like "we're losing it" and he freaked out on him for "his constant negativity"...The stress of a close game obviously was getting to him.

Nice game, nice season, Rams. I see that the Times finally gave you some ink. It wasn't page 1, but you got your own beat writer for a day who had some nice things to say. A season to remember and now a winter/spring/summer full of hope. It must feel good.

I still was not overly impressed. I give them credit for taking advantage of the short slants but you didnt get much going via the run and we set up a couple of your drives with the short field. If you want to have a moral victory from a 14 point loss then so be it. If you wana be happy about hanging with us then so be it. Congrats on your great season but how long do you expect Tommy to stay there. URI is already calling and UMass will too if Brown leaves after this season.

Didn't get to watch this game, or comment, so I'll add my xtwocentsx now, before UMass totally turns their attention to SIU

Good showing by the Rams. As much as I'd love to say how the PL Champ proved our League belongs in the postseason, I'm also slightly tired of watching our collective season end in Round 1 :(. We're going to advance deep again, it's just a question of when...

Still, congrats Fordham on a great game xbowx

...and I would be remiss if I didn't offer a tip of the proverbial cap to UMass. You play to win the game, and I saw nothing in recaps or this thread that suggested they didn't earn this victory. Almost too bad our 4 (5) year run had to end. Good luck for how ever much longer your season lasts xnodx

Just an incredible season by a remarkable group of kids and a tremendous staff. After falling behind early to such a strong team, I was so proud of the resilience of this team. The staff has done so many things well this year that it's hard to single out one thing to praise, imo ... but I have to say that the 'never say die' attitude that's been instilled is the most important to me. It's amazing what effect great leadership can have.

A few other things:

*Thanks to our PL brethren on here for the support. As we were getting shellacked throughout the board for seemingly not belonging, it was great to see the consistent support from our group on here. Thank you - it won't be forgotten.

*UMass was incredible and two things really stood out for me. First was obviously that they were so much more athletic and physical than us overall. Our offense clearly held their own but their O was just way too much. The combo of a very physical and sound Oline along with the two best WR's I've seen at this level were just too much for our undersized D to deal with. Perhaps more important, though, was how they handled us repeatedly coming back on them. A less confident or less experienced team would have gotten at least slightly rattled at some point ... the kind of stuff where kids stop playing within themselves and start trying to do too much like forcing passes or lunging on a run to pick up a few more yards and leave the ball exposed ... and UMASS handled our unexpected competitiveness with such confidence it was incredible. That may be the difference maker for them and I believe it stems from their experience from last year. Again, just very impressed with that team.

*Very interested to see how this season and our strong showing on ESPNU may help with recruiting. I think we're certainly going to be in the mix with the best from the PL next year, given all that we have coming back but as our 2003 team found out, it's much more difficult when you're not sneaking up on teams. We'd better improve alot if we want to make it a back to back thing.

Regardless, again, what a season!! Masella, Argast and crew are just incredible.

I have never desired to post before, just read to pass the time. When someone shows no respect for their opponent it kinda PO's me. You have obviously never strapped up. You don't begin to understand the amount of efort and the size of the ----- it takes to step on the field. Especially when you are tremendous underdogd and supposedly overmatched. Class is bringing it..no matter what the odds. You obviously have none and never will.xmadx

Your initial post, was a response to umassfan...but in it, you trashed the entire UMass program...

That's crap...you don't like what umassfan says...challenge him with facts...don't trash my school...

I called you on that, and your resposne to ME was I disrespect out opponents...I'm waiting for you to show ME where I disrespect opponents of UMass...

And by the way, your response to umassfan was pretty disrespecful of UMass...so before you accuse someone, better make sure your response isn't at the same level...

By the way, if you troll AGS as you claim, you'll know most UMass fans don't agree with umassfan and his approach...

Didn't lose a bet but after I saw your wager I thought it might be some sort of unwritten rule that catches on around here. Adopt the logo of the team that knocks you out of the playoffs for as long as they're in it.

It would be pretty cool in a year when your team is on a nice run to see all of these logos start popping up in support of your team. It's a longshot to see it catch on but figured the best way to just start it out with the Fordham crew.

Fordham, I like your choice of av for this purpose.

Our past chancellor was very much against that logo, despite the fact that it is used in varying color schemes for all of the UMass campuses. He insisted that we needed to be different as the flagship and made us use the UMass seal, which we have to cover often because at the center of the seal is still our former mascot: The Redman.

I'd sure like to see everyone around here sporting UMass until New Year's!

I did to watch the game. I watched it twice for that matter. After watching both times... I still come to the conclusion that the game was never in doubt. Fordham did play great and had a great season. But they were no match for UMass. Take that how you may... but its the truth.

Next season could be a pretty good year for the League xnodx

Fordham returns a good portion of this year's team. Randolph and Scott will be back for one last go-round each at HC and 'Gate respectively. I fully expect at least one of Lafayette/Lehigh to be improved (if not both of them). It has the potential to be a strong season, which is especially nice after the struggles we had in 2006.

Here's to a great 2008! xbeerchugx

Without trying to be too offensive, what about the rest?

Bucknell is an unknown quantity at best, and Georgetown will most likely struggle at the bottom of the League until the University really commits resources (that is: $$$$) to the program. Every league has some weaker teams, and the Patriot League is no exception. I'm not suggesting we'll be getting 3-4 teams in, but getting 2 deserving sides in is not out of the question xpeacex
