Matthew Sluka (Holy Cross, Kellenberg Memorial) and Darius Wilson (William & Mary, Iona Prep) are both products of the CHSFL in Metro NYC. Great to see them in the FCS top ten.

Just know it’s one guys opinion and he’s probably only watched a few FCS games in his entire life

Not saying our ISUr QB Zack Annexstad is or deserves or even will be a top 10 FCS QB.

But he could emerge as a top level QB in FCS. Lot of new parts/playbook came together late in offseason process last year .. new OC, new offense, and then new QB. Plus a very unproven WR group. Then a few too many injuries on our Redbird offense last year with our RB and OL groups. Not making excuses really .. just saying our new QB and offense dealt with a lot of headwind last fall. But he can throw it and he can deal with pocket pressure very well. His biggest knock is too much confidence he can thread the needle ... which can backfire even more when dealing with an inexperience WR group youre still getting to know. But if our RB room can stay healthy-ish and our OL can do same and settle into their positions. We lost RB stud Cole Mueller after 3 carries in Wiscy game. Our next RB Wenkers Wright was nursing couple injuries on and off. OL went thru way too many changes due to some injuries and simply trying to find the right mix.

All a bunch of woulda shoulda coulda, and other teams deal with same on various levels, I know. But our depth obviously couuldn't overcome. But this is why I am speculating Zack Annextsad could emerge this year .. he threw it really well at times last year and way more than any other Redbird QB has had to throw in Spack era. But we were also in a lot of close games last year, and then Spack would go all conservative in 2nd half and 4th qtr especially.

We'll see how our offense pans out, but hope springs eternal !!! And Annexstad could make some noise.

p.s. our defense has way too many question marks after strong 2022. Spack will figure it out, but it may take a few weeks or months .. our defensive 2 deep is unusually thin for a Spack team.

Day already is that...yet somehow 10 spots below another MVFC QB.

That is odd .. Day throws about 20 passes per game. Gronowski threw just 16 passes per game due SDSU leaning more on their run game, plus leading a lot games. So they completed same %, and had near identical TD-Pick ratios. Gronowski played 4 add'l games, so total pass attempts more than evened out. But Day threw for 86 more yards per game with those 4 extra passes .. so his QBR was 169% compared to Gronowski's 156.5%. One could also argue Gronowski got a lot more help than Day .. arguably at OL, WR, TE, and RB. Plus SDSU had the top defense in MVFC, maybe in FCS .. so the offense was getting right back on the field. And they played comparable schedules .. until SDSU had to do playoff run. But even that probably works out even.

Speaking of comparability of schedule, not going to get all into it .. but a bunch of QBs on this list play far easier schedules .. so notion of best QBs is very relative to opponent SOS.

I would take Gronowski every freaking day of the week over Day and it isn’t close.

I would absolutely put Day in over the guy from SEMO and maybe a couple others. I have seen all of them play but Day's lack of mobility is a big negative in my opinion.

Eli Sawyer split time with Cephus Johnson last year, so I wouldn't expect him to be on this list, but I think he will be at the end of the 2023 season if he can stay healthy. As a freshman in 2022, he threw for over 1,600 yards in 10 games (splitting time) with an 11-1 TD/INT ratio, and a 149.55 efficiency. He led us to our win over UIW and was rock-steady all year when he was in there. He got hurt in the regular season finale against Nicholls and didn't play in the playoffs.

Schuster doesn't put up the huge numbers, but I don't think he gets the respect that he deserves for what he does. Schuster has been really consistent and has done a great job of avoiding pressure and throwing receivers open while not having much to work with. WR's and O-Line will be the best he's had to work with, this year, and I'm pretty sure he's the only QB to have beat both Day and Gronowski, as well. Could open some eyes this year. I'm not saying he should have been ranked top ten, but nobody anywhere ever really even mentions his name.

As an SDSU fan I can speak to this. Theo and Sluka are about as polar opposite as you can be. Sluka is far more dangerous with his feet while Day has a cannon and is a much more accurate passer.
