57,248 at the Bowl to watch Harvard in a walkover. Yale was a no show.
Attendance was not what they expected. I wonder what happened? Premonitions? Did everyone stay in the parking lot?

An extremely disappointing 5500 in Richmond KY today to watch the Colonels finish off an 8-0 championship run through the OVC. Weather was on the cool side and windy, but sunny and beautiful. Strangest part of EKU attendance trends is that they don't usually follow how well EKU is playing. Instead, the attendance in any given year seems to be inversely proportional to how good a team Big Blue up at UK (only 30 miles away)has in any given year. Since the Cats were (by UK standards) pretty darned competitive this year, EKU attendance was down, despite the memorable championship run and a fun offensive team to watch. I hate the fact that so many EKU fans stayed home to watch UK get bounced by Georgia rather than coming out to celebrate the championship.
Anyway, congrats again to the Colonels.
With Delaware and GSU going down today, I think the Colonels probably deserve a first-round home game, but with bids already made and our poor attendance figures on the year, I'm feeling pessimistic.

Wow. You have high standards. Considering it was 35 degrees in Boone, last regular season game against a 2-8 team (which isn't a rival), in a stadium that only has an actual place to sit for 16,000 people (not to mention the limitations on bathrooms and concessions), I would say 23,000+ was impressive for today's game.

Record NDSU crowd: 19,053 - South Dakota State 11/18/2006

And the UXD's think we're their biggest rivals...

10,817 at Villanova for UD/VU
1,985 in Dover, DE for Howard/DSU (hence why they won't get a bid for the playoffs nor will UD ever give them a home game.. there were probably more UD fans that traveled to Villanova for the VU/UD game than there were in total attendance at DSU's game)

For the Harvard-Yale game, I wonder how they didn't get more people? It was a nice sunny day in New Haven (or at least it was that morning when I drove through New Haven on the way to New York). If they couldn't attract over 60,000 yesterday, I don't see them doing it for a very long time.

What I don't understand is that they have had over 50,000, even when Yale was only decent, in 2003 and 2005. With both undefeated(in the league), I would have though 60k easy. What I don't know is if they count tickets sold or people through the gates. If the latter is the case, maybe some of the people in the parking lot, who like to arrive late, stayed there with H up so much so early.

It was a great game, I was there, left at 2am via bus. Crimson dominated on every aspect. I never miss a Harvard game, but was disappointed, alot less Harvard fans then I though, less then 10,000 there. I thought there would be about 65,000 to see this game. I guess when Army plays Yale in 2010 they wont get the 60,000 either, unless the new president brings some troops back from Iraq.xthumbsupx

You know what was funny, usually people will get there by halftime, the whole Yale student section was empty til almost the end of first quarter. All tailgating, ( by the way nice tailgating at yale bowl, felt like I was at the superbowl) But at the same time people were coming in, everyone was leaving. By the start of the 3rd quarter, the entire section I was in emptied. But there were very few empty sections, it looked like more then 57,000 were there, but I guess people were spread out ( hint I took my usual 3 bench seats).

There were 57,000+ inside the Bowl at game time, but there was probably an additional 25-30,000 in the parking lot tailgating. Since Harvard jumped out to a big early lead, many of the fans stayed in the parking lot and never bothered to go into the Bowl.
BTW, the parking situation at Yale Bowl is horrible when there's crowds of 50,000+. I saw cars parked 3-4 miles away on the side of the road on Route 34. Even for last year's Princeton game, which drew over 41,000, it was still a mess.

Yale's Attendance in 2007:
15,427 vs. Cornell
24,237 vs. Dartmouth
14,052 vs. Lehigh
3,000 vs. Brown
57,248 vs. Harvard
Season Average: 22,793
It's too bad we had such rainy day for the Brown game otherwise our attendance average would've been much higher, like close to 26,000.

SRO crowd of 16,022 saw the 143rd meeting of Lafayette and Lehigh, the fourth largest crowd in the 20-year history of Lehigh's Goodman Stadium. Lafayette won the entertaining see-saw battle with a final score of 21-17. The Leopards have won four straight over Lehigh for the first time since 1946-1949 and now lead the all-time series 76-62-5.

I think they may have even sold more tickets. It was sold out weeks before the game, so that meant 16,000 seats. Then they opened up for SRO on the horseshoe, of which there were a fair number seated there. HOwever, Iknow there were a good number who watched on TV in the parking lots and tailgated the whole time, so I'm curious as to whether that number is actual people who passed through the turnstiles or whether it was tickets sold. Me thinks it was the former.

Attendance
There have been some questions about the attendance at the Bowl.
Yale counts only those that enter the Bowl as attendees.
I was told standing room only tickets were put on sale.
What happened is simple: Down 27-0 at halftime, people listening to Ron and Carm decided the view was better outside the Bowl.
If the game was at all competitive, the Bowl overflows.
There were a ton of people in the parking lots who never made it inside.
Driving out at about 9 p.m., the trash heaps on the fields on Central Avenue were mountainous.
