I do know that he didn't turn the ball over a single time as a passer or runner during the last six games of the season. Let that sink in. We finished the year at +12 in turnovers.

BTW Santos and Foster handled the ball almost the same amount of times. (Rush+pass+reception) Foster 437 and Santos 414

Foster may be evaluated as a runningback. He may very well have better numbers than any runningback in the FCS. That and adding 1203 yards passing to that, I think he will be a shoo-in to be a finalist.

Trying to evaluate passing yards on an equal basis with running yards is ridiculous.

A 2000 yd rusher would be a lock for the Payton, while a 2000 yd passer wouldn't even be mentioned. A RB with 1850 yds rushing would be in the mix... AP was a 3 time finalist with 1795, 1694, and 1807 rushing yards. Foster has more yards than that.

Strictly as a RB, Foster is 2nd in yds, 4th in yds/carry, and 2nd in tds, while only being 13th in carries, which just further demonstrates that he is on a different level. Tack on 1200 yds passing with 2/3 completion rate, and I don't see how anyone can't say he isn't the favorite going in. The one statistic that is the most amazing about Foster is that while he is 2nd in rushing TDS, 60% of them came from more than 30yds out.

The Payton can be used as a career award, if there is no stand out candidate. With Santos winning last year though, this won't come into play.

If I had to guess at the three finalists, it would be Flacco, Cuff, and Foster. Johnson may be a dark horse, but if Santos is picked it would be based on his career, much like AP was rewarded a finalist spot for his career. I know that I'm a homer, but Foster is above the rest.

So, the SoCon's coaches have voted Jayson Foster Conference offensive player of the year and first team all-conference quarterback. I think I value their opinion just a little bit more than yours.
