EWU was a playoff team in '05, with Walter Payton winner Erik Meyer (QB) and Walter Payton finalist Eric Kimble (WR). They were 3-8 last year. :)

Elon is having their best SoCon season and PVAMU is having their best season in years. Richmond and EWU were obviously playoff teams in 2005.

Looks like Grambling is having the biggest turnaround of those listed so far.

This might be a wierd throw into the mix but McNeese. Last year they barely won conference when the SLC was its weakest in years...then got obliterated in the 1st round. This year they are undefeated and should go deep in the playoffs....to prove they are back after a 3 year hiatus.

I have to say ELON - it has been so long since they have been truly competitive and trying to build a program in what many consider the best FCS conference is a feat in itself, but they have become much more than competitive - they are a true force - Lembo has done a great job in a very short period of time and for those who haven't seen him play - Scott Riddle is the real deal with, in my opinion, the best receiving corp in football ---

I think if Hofstra can win out they should receive strong consideration...2-9 to 9-2 (a 7 game swing) and a playoff bid. Then again, Delaware would have gone from 5-6 to 10-1, winning the CAA Title and getting a Top 4 seed. Both are great stories, and both teams have a lot of work to do to get to those records...most notably vs. #9 Richmond for UD and for Hofstra vs. #8 UMass.

Dayton: 2006 - 4-6, 2007 YTD: 9-1, ( Last place in the PFL in 2006 at 1-6, currently tied for 1st in the PFL at 5-1).

Morehead State: 2006 - 2-9, 2007 YTD: 7-2, currently tied for 1st in the PFL at 5-1

Valparaiso: 2006 - 3-8, 2007 YTD: 5-5

I'd say GA Southern, but also Missouri State, lucky to be 2-9 last year (1 TD from being 1-10), should finish 6-5 this year for our first winning season since 04.

The thing about GSU this year is that the SoCon is much better this year than they were last year, even though our OOC schedule this year is definitly easier (last year we had North Dakota State, Central Arkansas, Coastal Carolina, and Central Connecticut State). Every team in the conference is better this year than last year, except for Furman and App. State, who probably haven't moved much either way from the playoff teams that they were last year. For us to go 2-5 to 5-2 (5-2 if we beat Furman tommorow) for the conference record shows a lot more improvement than meets the eye.

I think if you're looking at who is coming back after a bad year last year then there's a few potential seven win swing teams that are on top.

I don't think this is that wierd at all. I think even the most ardent of McNeese supporters would agree that this year does represent a comeback for them.

I know they finished 6-5 last year but Liberty was 1-10 in 2005...to go from 1-10 and being shut out three consecutive games to potentially 8-3 with one of the highest scoring offenses in the country in just two years is pretty impressive
