Mike Trout has now played 12 years, same as Puckett. If you campare their stats, they are similar, Trout only has a huge advantage in BB and HR. Puckett has a higher average, more doubles, hits, total bases, gold gloves, (Trout none), and was more durable by playing more games.

All that said, Trouts WAR is much higher, I assume because the BB bumps OBP.

In other words WAR is questionable when rating a player, and Puckett is much better than people and WAR give him credit for.

I guess this post is in reference to all the people that say Puckett doesn't belong in the HOF.

Mike Trout has been the most hyped player in MLB history, not saying he doesn’t deserve some hype but MLB always seemed to favor him

Hmm, is Ernie Banks more comparable to Trout as in no playoff series wins or World Series rings? xchinscratchx

Ernie has a gold glove, Trout doesn't.

Still gotta account for eras....specialization in pitching and starters not going as long has pull all batting stats down......and the emphasis on either hitting bombs and striking out.

You don't think Puckett should be in the Hall of Fame?

Here is what Hall of Famers do

The night before Game 6 of the 1991 World Series, Puckett famously told his teammates to "get on my back tomorrow, boys, I'm going to take us home. '' And in Game 6, Puckett made a leaping catch and had three hits, one a walk-off homer.

Bob Gibson once said, that if anyone pointed like Babe Ruth, he would throw the ball at his right ear and it would come out his left ear.

Not saying that at all...only saying it's tough to compare players from different eras period.

Thanks! I remember that story from years ago. Other than Koufax, Gibby was the only other pitcher I recall in the 60's who was so feared by the opposing team, they were virtually beaten before they took the field.
