I saw that this week, College Gameday is going to be from Williams College for their game against Amherst. First time Gameday has ever done a DIII game.

No offense but I would rather watch Williams-Amherst, the football of cousrse is no where near as good, but its about the tradition.

Amherst-Williams is one of the oldest football rivalries in the nation. They will meet for the 122nd time this weekend. First meeting was 1884. Also two of the best nicknames in all of collegs sports -- The Williams Ephs and the Amherst Lord Jeffs. The game usually decides the NESCAC title, but Amherst is 4-3 this season and Williams is 5-2.
This game might actually outdraw UNH-UMass.

*GAME COVERAGE*
ESPN announced Monday it will be broadcasting live from Williams College this Saturday, Nov. 10 on the site of the 122nd Amherst-Williams football game. Dubbed “The Biggest Little Game in America,” the rivalry dates back to 1884 and will be the first-ever Division III game to host the Gameday set. Host Chris Fowler will be on set, adjacent to Weston Field with ESPN’s Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit for the program’s 150th episode.
The game will also be aired live on New England Sports Network (NESN) beginning at noon, with Tom Caron on the play-by-play, Andy Gresh providing color commentary and Ashley Adamson conducting sideline interviews.

the best in the NESSAC New England small school athletic conference.
To be honest, I hadn't even heard of Williams until a friend of mine from high school started there this fall. :o

I grew up about 10 mins away from Williams college and drove through Amherst college when I went to school at UMass. I had to do a double take when I heard they were going to be at Williams. I thought I heard them wrong. Out of all the good years each team has had... they pick a year when both are only decent.

Um..The game is being played in WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. near the Vermont, New York boarder and about an hour and a half ride from Umass, not exactly "down the road" xrolleyesx

Wow, you think the crowd will be that small for the UNH-UMASS game or does Williams have a much larger football facility than I imagine?

Nope...just people pile in. The place sits about 1500-2000. They will get 12-14k for this one.

This is THE game for the alum of both schools. Sort of like Harvard-Yale. It's homecoming, the super bowl, Thanksgiving and Christmas day all rolled into one. The stadium size has nothing to do with it. It's like a high school game, with people 20 deep standing around the sidelines.. But, I would hope UNH-UMass draws more, just saying Amherst-Williams draws huge crowds for two small schools.

Go Lord Jeffs!
No, Go Ephs (I really have no opinion on this game, I just wanted to post a picture of a cow)

Why are they called the Ephs and Jeffs?

First names of Lord Jeffery Amherst and Ephriam Williams , just as Yale is sometimes known as the Eli's after there founder Eli Yale.

Thanks for the clarification. I think some of us were thrown off by the "at Amherst" in the title and misread the post (which indeed says "from Williams").
Anyway, it's good to see ESPN doing this.
