View Full Version : NAU's record vs. Division II since 1995

Lumberjacks76
September 9th, 2005, 01:04 AM
NAU scores against Division II opponents (non-Division I-A or I-AA):

2005: NAU 52, Adams State 13 (NAU is currently 1-0 on the season)
2004: NAU 34, Western New Mexico 14 (NAU finished 4-7)
2000: NAU 32, Chadron State 24 (NAU finished 3-8)
1998: NAU 28, Western State 9 (NAU finished 6-5)
1997: NAU 33, St. Cloud State 10 (NAU finished 6-5)
NAU 40, Minnesota-Duluth 6
1996: NAU 75, Western New Mexico 0 (NAU finished 9-3)
1995: NAU 62, Sacramento State 7 (NAU finished 7-4)
NAU 62, Abilene Christian 0
NAU 68, Northridge State 7

In 1995, NAU played 3 schools classified as Division II (one transitional, two regular).

Notice how NAU's ability to score points against a Division II school is in direct correlation to their overall record at the end of the season (e.g. the more they score, the better their record becomes). Sort of obvious, but wanted to point it out anyway. :)

Actually, I'm trying to post interesting things about NAU football until I can post game related posts about Big Sky Games on Saturday. I ran out of ideas yesterday and was scrambling to find interesting things to post.

One interesting thing of note: NAU's Skydome is the second largest wooden domed stadium in the world, next to the...UNI Skydome?

Does NAU have a board?

If not, Lumberjacks76 needs to get the ball-rolling. I know those Big Sky fans would just love to see NAU have a board, maybe not on the scale of egriz, but ya know...

lumberjacks - keep 'em coming. I'm with ralph. How else can I on the east coast learn about schools out west? You're posting some facts about your program.

Suggestion though: What might spurn some more debating of the topic is if you framed your post as a question instead of a statement. For example, you could throw out the topic of "What's your school's record against D-II for the past 10 years?" You then provide your research, and other people can chime in with stuff about their school. Otherwise, it's a closed thread. Just my :twocents:

Yeah, I'd go with the statement that I'd really question how accurate these numbers are. The only DII team that UD plays since they moved to IAA is West Chester. As UD has been in IAA for about 25 years now I don't know how they could've managed a 27-5 record (that's 32 games) against DII teams in that time. Unless I was sleeping during one of these years, we never played West Chester more than once in a year. In addition, UD's only lost to West Chester twice (that's only 2 DII losses) since being a IAA team (strange factoid, in each of those years that UD lost to West Chester, that UD team went on to the playoffs - heck, in 1992, the same UD team that lost to West Chester made it to the IAA semifinals - go figure). Looking at the other teams there's no way that the teams, once they were IAA, could've played as many DII teams as shown.

And the reason FU hasn't played many DII teams is because in the 80's maybe 90's the Woffords, Newberrys, Presbyterians were NAIA. I believe FU D-II tie was with Wofford but I am not sure.

I appreciate the site and think it is a nice potential resource... but something is wacky with it. For example you have us play UL-Lafayette 16 times (http://www.diaafootball.com/vt000354000685.html) since 1983. We've never played UL-L

It might have something to do with Lafayette College (http://www.diaafootball.com/vt000354000472.html). I checked them and we're missing years between 82-98.

Oops. How did you get that page? I can't see where it was linked from. I think it might be an orphan - I've got some junk pages out there that aren't linked to anything (leftovers from earlier mistakes)... in any case, I'll change Lafayette's name in there from "Lafayette" to "Lafayette College."

My point exactly. Your posts actually take thought and time to type out, not like a lot of folks here who click and post a smilie or something. At least you put some thought into your posts and don't just post for the sake of posting. If others don't want to talk about NAU football, they don't have to open the thread.
