Not bad for their first full year in Division I-A. I remember they knocked around NAU 48-25 two years ago in the quarterfinals.

Did anyone else hear the ESPN announcer say that FAU was by far the strongedt of OSUs first 3 games. lol Montana St. seemed like it was pretty tough.

Empty stadium, boring game, FAU got pushed all over the field by OSU. Montana State gave OSU a much better game. SunBelt teams are still not really I-A.

I agree with blukeys. Howard Schnellenberger is a shell of his former self, both skill-wise and physically. Truth be told, I always thought he was overrated.

I read in ESPN "The Magazine" that the average FAU student is 25 and female. I doubt that this school will ever have great attendance.

But, while Howard certainly isn't at the top of his game like he was when he began building one of the greatest college football powerhouses of all time, you can't really take too much away from what FAU has done in the past few years. Last year they finished 9-3, which included a win over the Sun Belt Champions North Texas and a road win against Hawaii.

Was there a 1,000 people at that game?

What I saw of the game (during commercials for the Western Illinois-Northern Colorado contest), it looked like FAU was getting manhandled by Oklahoma State. My hunch is that Travis Lulay and Montana State would kick Howard Schnellenberger's butt (and his Owls too). That 9-3 record last year was very misleading because FAU (as they did during their 2003 playoff run) played an extremely poor schedule. The better teams in I-AA would have spanked them, just like Colgate did in the 2003 semifinals. FAU has no business being in I-AA and will never make much of a dent on things. People in Florida are interested in Florida, Florida State and Miami (and at the I-AA level, FAMU and Bethune-Cookman), not in FAU, Florida International, or South Florida, the three I-AA refugees.

So are you saying that the better teams in I-AA would have spanked Hawaii and North Texas (both bowl teams for what it's worth) to the same degree that FAU beat them? Or did they just get lucky, twice.
