Tough for Chelsea, Terry especially has to be feeling down. It was in his grasp....and he just slipped coming to the ball
Well-played game by both sides, especially after rain started becoming a factor later on. Manchester United is a deserving winner, even after being thoroughly dominated in the 2nd Half. Drogba's Red was well-deserved, but an unbelievably stupid thing to do. If he's still in, I can't believe he doesn't hit a penalty and Chelsea wins
Unfortunately, I thought the officiating was less than stellar. Really ticky-tacky stuff mixed with a couple of misses on corners/goal kicks. A shame given how well the match was played

what a game! i had to keep updated on my computer at work. i really wish i would have taken off and gone the the local soccer bar. chelsea reminded me of france in the world cup. dumb red card at the end of the match most likely causing a loss in pks.

What the hell was up with Ronaldo's stutter-step approach on his own missed PK? It didn't look like Ronaldo slipped -- it looked like he was intentionally trying to bait the keeper into moving early. Anyone know the rule on this?

Tommy Smyth (wit a y ;) ) said it probably wouldn't have counted if he had made it.

I missed that explanation, probably because of the noise coming from the dehumidifier and two blower fans I had running in my basement during the game to dry out the carpet and walls following this weekend's basement flood. xbawlingx

I'm not a big soccer fan, I played when I was a kid. However, occassionally I'll check it out and I'm glad I watched today's match. It was great. Unfortunate for Terry, you know he's dying right now. Love the pks though.

They were talking about it being illegal. I think the rule is that you can't stop your motion once you start to go forward, presumably for that reason. Sutter-stepping is one thing (happens all the time), but he full-out put on the breaks, then kicked. He's probably lucky that he didn't slip like Terry did (or worse) on the wet surface. Can't say I'm sorry Cech knocked it away... xwhistlex

So it took many hours, but I finally got to watch the end of this one. I recorded it, but only for 30 minutes extra. It stopped right after Ronaldo missed his PK. So, I thought I'd just have to check the web to get the results, but then I caught the replay on ESPN2.
WOW. I went nuts when Ronaldo missed the PK and assumed that was it, but then Terry slipped up. You've gotta feel awful for him, but really have to put some blame on Drogba, what a dumb penalty...
