View Full Version : Do any 7-4 teams deserve a playoff berth?

OK, I'll post this, because eventually someone will. It is almost certain that some quality 7-4 teams will miss the playoffs and some 8-3 average teams will get in.

With that being said, besides the possibility of YSU or WIU finishing 7-4, does of them get in? Or any other FCS school at 7-4 for an at large?

Doesn't WIU have a win over a sub-Div I team? St Francis of Illinois? WIU will not go dancing at 7-4...

YSU played sub-Div I Lock Haven. 7-4 does not cut it for them either...

No way. There will be too many decent 8-3 teams. Only way a 7-4 gets in is with an autobid.

No 7-4 team deserves an at large bid over a 10-1, (8-1 FCS), University of Dayton Flyers, baby!!!!

Actually, I could name about 7 or 8 7-4 teams who (if they have the requisite # of FCS wins) would be MUCH better representatives than Dayton. xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx

a 7-4 UNH team, with wins at UMass, vs Delaware, at Marshall, at Hofstra would easily make it before Dayton. But that wont matter cause Maine is going down too :p

Boy UNH,

I think you're a bit concerned with the wrong game! We need to take care of business next week before considering Maine.

Gateway is a 2 Bid league, WIU has to beat someone to actually be considered and they didn't do it. Same would be said for YSU and their poor excuse for a QB in Zetts.

Neither Western Illinois or Youngstown State can reach 7 DI wins this year, so we shouldn't see either in the playoffs.

While either team could be competitive against anyone in the country, they will still be sitting at home watching the playoffs.

It's exceedingly unlikely we'll see a 7-4 or a mid-major at-large this year.
The field of candidates is quite a bit stronger than usual.

Dayton has better credentials than any of the current 4-loss teams except possibly SC State. However, most—if not all—of the contending CAA teams should probably be considered ahead of Dayton if any of them fall to 7-4.

I look forward to next year when we can get rid of the "mid-major" designation once and for all.

Agreed.....unless it's an autobid, this would be a freaking crime this year....

I guess it would all depend on who the 7-4 team lost their 4 games to.

Mickey Matthews will tell you they would if they go 7-4 but most people have it right - no shot.
