On a nice day, today's Yale/Brown game would've drawn at least 15,000; maybe more.

Two years ago we had a similar day for the Brown game. It seems we get crappy weather for Yale/Brown in New Haven, but nice sunny weather when the game is in Providence. In fact I don't think I ever remember attending a Yale/Brown game at Brown Stadium where the weather was anything but nice.

Considering how bad the weather was up in the northeast, that's pretty good for Dartmouth.

Dartmouth doesn't draw very big crowds, even on nice days. They only draws decent crowds when they host Harvard or Yale.

That 3,711 was bigger than the Brown-Yale crowd, and Yale averages 10 to 15k per game.

I was at the '81 game. Not a great day. but not pouring, either. More amazing was the 60,000+ for the Ice Bowl in '87. I really cannot remember any Y-H games played in really wet weather. Cold, yes, windy, yes, especially in Boston, but not steady rain.

I would think that no matter what happens this week there should be 60k in the Bowl on the 17th. The title is up for grabs whether both win, both lose, or one wins and the other doesn't this week.

70,000 in the Bowl can't happen anyway. The capacity of the Yale Bowl was reduced from 70,896 to 64,269 after renovations in the late '90s.

The '81 Yale/Harvard game drew 75,300 to the Bowl, even with the bad weather. The '87 Ice Bowl game drew over 66,000.

With the Ivy title on the line, this years Game should draw around 60,000.

They don't. None of the PL schools make money on the football programs and not expected to. Everyone runs in the 'red' in terms of gate receipts versus expenses. Most schools are fairly small to begin with. I.E. barely 3,000 at Colgate..of which at least 500 were Lehigh fans...Colgate's enrollment is only about 2800. At most PL schools half the student bodies have little interest in athletics..or particularly football. It's a constant uphill battle (no pun intended since most of our schools are on hills), and I'm amazed that Colgate does so well in recruiting considering the lack of fans, somewhat isolated geographical area and sometimes nasty climate. Biddle has to get a lot of credit for keeping the machine moving. Even Lehigh, which as one of the larger student bodies at 4,700 and has led the league in attendance for many years has seen its average attendance drop over the past 4 years...But for the Lafayette game at home this year that will bring in about 17,000-18,000 people, the home attendance average would be below 10,000.

I guess App could have seven home games too if we scheduled teams like Lenoir-Rhyne for three of them.Yeah since you only have 6 games on your home schedule, adding 1 more home game against say Mars Hill, or Coastal Carolina, or Liberty, or VMI instead of a money game at Michigan would be way out of line for ASU. How is that schedule looking for 2008 and 2009?

Question: How do you go about allocating season tickets? At NDSU, you must be a member of the Teamakers. I pay $1200.00 per year which then ALLOWS me to purchase two season tickets for various sports. My membership level allows me to buy two seats just outside of the 40 yard line and up about 15 rows. The closer to the fifty you get, the more expensive membership required. To the best of my knowledge, on or near the fifty requires payment of a full scholarship ($6K+) before you can buy the tickets. What about your deal?

What about your deal?At Montana you put your name on the list, and wait for the expansion. Depending on where you sit some seat require a membership in the Grizzly Scholarship Association. There are different levels of membership in the GSA, and your membership level sets your priority, but not all seats require GSA membership.

Does NDSU sell out all games? I thought that was something new? If they don't sell out all games why require a membership in the Teammakers to buy a season ticket?

ndsu71und74
November 9th, 2007, 06:14 PM
Grizbeer: Are ALL seats reserved in Missoula? If so, I'm impressed. NDSU used to sellout all most of the time at Dacotah Field, but not all seats were (or are) reserved. When the Bison moved inside and simultaneously, the program faltered, the numbers never rose to the expectations. With the team now playing better and the move to FCS with consistently better competion, the crowd is coming back.

The Teamakers organization has controled the season tickets for as long as I can remember, and that goes back to the "bad old days" in the early 60's when they gave away tickets to the games. As an aside, it was said the best place to be alone with a date on a Saturday night in 1962 was to go to a Bison night game at Dacotah Field!

If your athletic department does not require some sort of membership or fee to get season tickets, perhaps they should. They are missing out on some revenue that, based on previous threads, I understand they say they need. True?
