View Full Version : Agassi v. Blake

One of the best tennis matches I've ever seen. Blake came out and absolutely blew Agassi off the court winning the first two sets in about 30 minutes. Somehow Agassi fought back and won the 3rd, dominated the 4th and won the 5th in a tiebreaker 8-6. Blake looked like the 35 year old when the match was over. Agassi looked as though he could go another 5 sets. He is in phenominal shape.
Anyone else watch the match?

Heard about it but I was watching the US play Guatemala in soccer.

Great match on (IMO) the biggest stage in tennis. I'll take the Open over Wimbledon any day.

I did, all the way from first game to the end. Honestly, I continued to watch it because I thought Agassi could do it. I kept waiting for the crowd to get into it and they finally did. I feel bad for Blake, he's from friggin NY but the crowd was decidedly for Agassi (as was I). You have to give him credit though, it would have been easy to fold after losing the third and fourth set. When he got Agassi down 3-0 in the tiebreaker I thought it was over. Amazing match. The good news for Agassi is that he can take Ginepri. I don't see either winning the final though.
BTW, Pols, I watched the US v Guatamala during the commercials. Really a meaningless game and it showed IMO.

Agassi is the man. His never quit attitude is inspiring, and his ability to continue to refine his particular skills and especially his conditioning in the face of younger players with arguably more talent is amazing.

Agassi lacks the power the younger players have, but he is a tactician. Nobody can carve up a court like Agassi. Even at 35, when he brings his A-game, nobody can touch him. Not even Federer. IMO
The only time Agassi gets to play Federer is in the late rounds of a tourney and by then Agassi is usually too worn down to bring his A-game. He might be able to put up a better fight this time, but he needs to put Ginepri down quickly. If has to go through another 4 or 5 setter to win the semi, Federer will eat him up, again.

I have always preferred Wimbledon over the US Open, probably I always have liked serve and volleyers (ex B. Becker), personally I am not really into tennis now, not enough personalities. Federer is an unbeleivable player, but he makes Ivan Lendl look like Jimmy Connors

I haven't been to Wimbledon, so maybe being at the Open has influenced me. Especially sitting in the endzone watching Maria play.
Here's a personality for you!
