Growing up in the Southwestern United States, Carmen Lopez could have never imagined herself coming to Hanover, New Hampshire for college. Lopez, whose maiden name was Schmitt, was raised in the Navajo Nation – a reservation that occupies portions of northeast Arizona, northwestern New Mexico and southeastern Utah.
