The Gridiron Power Index (GPI), the hybrid ranking for FCS and top index indicator of at-large playoff selection has the University of Northern Iowa in the top spot for the fifth straight week. The Southern Conference is the top ranked league. The FCS's largest league, the Colonial Athletic Association has seven of their teams in the top 25; the Southern Conference placed five; the Gateway Football Conference placed four; the Great West Football Conference placed two; Big Sky Conference, Ivy League, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Ohio Valley Conference, Patriot League, Southland and Southwestern Athletic Conferences placed one each. I would like to see the playoffs work out according to the GPI, as they almost always do. If not, it will likely be a political push to have more teams represented from other conferences as opposed to the 8 autobids and 8 BEST available at-large teams.

GPI is usually a good indicator of which teams will make the playoffs as at-large entries. Lucky for Montana it doesn't always come into play for deciding the four seeds (or other home teams in the first round). Based on GPI alone, the Griz would be getting on a plane to get to their playoff opener. :D

Delaware would be #4 seed based on GPI (today). xthumbsupx Would I put them there? Not ahead of Montana or Southern Illinois at this point. xtwocentsx
