Saw that Texas State - San Marcos played Texas in a fall exhibition. They beat the Longhorns, great news for them -- but does this game really do them any good?

The Bobcats are in the mid-major SLC that produces multiple bids every now and then, but by playing the Horns, they lost a regular season game as this game counts against their regular season game allowance. It does not add a 'W' to the W/L column however.

For a mid-major conference, why would you want to throw away another potential RPI boost? Seems to not be the smartest move -- the win does not even get you much publicity because it is just an exhibition.

Any thoughts on this? Texas actually played Baylor as well...

I'm not familiar w/ D-1 rules in baseball, but I thought most schools could play a short fall schedule that were all considered exhibition.

Counts against their spring schedule...not sure if it's a new rule or not, but this is the first I've learned about it and exhibitions in the fall...

Not sure how it works for softball and fall schedules as I know most schools play sub-Div I schools in the fall...
