Game kicks off at 6PM CT on Saturday 11/26 and will be streamable on ESPN+. Here's how they break down statistically (the number in parentheses is each team's FCS rank in that particular category).

Should be a great game, picking Vandals because of Jason Eck. Idaho by one score.

Stats very close, heart will reign victorious in this one. Turnovers skewed as three of those Lion turnovers per seasonal stats were one game. Lions been protecting the ball this season. Clean up the penalties and Lions win. [emoji881]. Vandalism is against the law in Strawberry Stadium....

Idaho's results on the road so far this season.

Lost to FBS Washington State 24-17
Lost to FBS Indiana 35-22 (Up 10-0 at the half)
Beat NAU 27-10 (For comparison, in NAU's other home games they lost by 3 to North Dakota, 3 to Montana State, and 2 to Weber State)
Beat Montana 30-23 (Montana's lone home loss)
Lost to Sac State 31-28 (Led 28-24 with 2 minutes to play)
Beat Idaho State 38-7

Safe to say they're road tested. However, Big Sky teams SUCK on the road in the first round of the playoffs. So it could go either way. The thing going against SELA is they haven't played a team with a pulse since their very impressive drubbing of Jacksonville State on October 22nd. Combined record of opponents since is 12-32. The thing going against Idaho is they struggled mightily against the run in their two FCS losses. SELA barreled for over 2000 yards on the ground this year. Should be a battle.

The weather for Hammond America on gameday is calling for a chance of 50% rain during the day. In the evening, showers and then partly cloudy overnight. Daytime high 66 degrees, dropping into the 40's overnight. Winds at 5 to 10 MPH. (There is no dome in Hammond.) ;-)

Southeastern has been crushed with injuries all season long. Coach Scelfo should be in the conversation for National Coach of the Year for what this team has been through this season. SLU is 8-1 vs the FCS with their only loss being by 3 points without their starting QB. SLU also played 4 out of 5 down the stretch on the road so it certainly is nice to be playing at home. SLU has won 1st round games in 2019 and 2021 and look to make a deeper run this year. If Southeastern has enough healthy bodies I think they win this game!!! #LionUp

The Vandal strengths on O, D and ST is equally matched by SELA's strengths. This might be the most balanced match of the First Round. The biggest difference in these stats is SOS. Idaho has 86 SOS while SELA has 107 SOS. https://www.warrennolan.com/fcs/2022/stats-season-owp

At the beginning of the season: https://theanalyst.com/na/2022/06/fcs-schedules-are-not-built-the-same-the-strength-of-all-130-heading-into-the-2022-season/

It was the coach's choice to have him sit to ensure he was fully healed up. No major injuries. Just a decision to make sure he is fresh for the game Saturday.

What am I missing?? All of the Idaho fans keeps saying they’ve played a much tougher schedule. Idaho is 7-2 against the FCS and lost to both good teams they’ve played. Their signature win was against a 7-4 Montana team that shouldn’t have made the playoffs. The Big Sky is incredibly top heavy and they missed Montana St. The southland certainly has some bad teams, but UIW (10-1) is absolutely loaded and SLU stepped out of conference and smashed a 9-2 Jacksonville State team on the road which is transitioning to FBS and has more scholarships.

Was gonna pull for Idaho because they would have to make 2 back-to-back Cross-country trips and thought that would help Samford, who we Paladins want to advance, so we can get a rematch with them in the Semifinals…

BUT…after listening to these 2 muscovites for 30 minutes (couldn’t take any more)…. GO LIONS!!!

Birmingham is just a short drive; so those plans are easy to cancel if Samford falters ahead of schedule.

Besides, FUBeAR listened for 30 solid minutes to those guys out in their own private Idaho pontificating about how sorry Southeastern Louisiana’s Team is and the Lions beat UIW, so, really, how good can they be?

We will miss your support.

This is all new territory for most Vandal fans. When I was in college, Idaho was a routine participant in the D1-AA playoffs. McNeese St. and Georgia Southern were monsters in the playoffs. I am going to drink lots of liquor at the watch party and hope for a great game.

You mean the backup who should have been the starter all year and probably cost them a winning season because he wasn’t? He’s the only reason it was close. That said, McNeese is a rivalry and all of our games are close. It’s just the way it goes.
