Four things you need to know about UND hockey and its fans

1. They are the greatest college hockey program ever, 8 Nattys (Michigan has 9 and Denver have 9)
2. The Ralph Englestad arena would ensure college hockey dominance for the foreseeable future, (built 2000 I believe, one natty since then, 2016)

Yale has an actual three game unbeaten streak. After a win over Army they played to a tie with both Merrimack and Vermont. The way this season has gone, that's a positive.

And Yale ended with a loss to Dartmouth 4-0. Dartmouth has 4 wins this season, 3 of them against Yale and none have been close. Yale is not good, but you would think they would at least be competitive against another bad team.

The Dartmouth loss was deflating. They showed good fight today scoring 3 goals against Sacred Heart, but still fell short 4-3. The Connecticut Classic has demonstrated the sad reality that Yale Hockey has degenerated from National Champions to the worst Division I hockey program in Connecticut. Likewise, the last Rivalry on Ice game demonstrated Yale Hockey’s sad decline.
Last year was terrible. But what’s worse is that it doesn’t appear any progress was made this year towards rebuilding the program. They same issues persist, namely extremely low scoring both on power plays and in general. If you don’t score you can’t win.
A serious postmortem of the entire program is in order immediately following the season. Perhaps a consultant should be brought in to do this, like Columbia did with their football program when the asked Bagnoli to handle that function. Of course, he was later hired as the new coach.

Mavs win their 6th straight title with a 3-2 win. You got to see a heck of a game. I was looking at LiveStats online while watching the Mavs women's basketball team advance to the NSIC semis. Sounds like that last minute was wild.

If I understood correctly, MSU needed to win in regulation to win the league title, any result that took overtime meant Michigan Tech wins the league title. Which makes the last minute and a half really wild:

- With about 1:30 left Michigan Tech scores to tie the game 2-2
- The refs talk for a few minutes and allow the goal, then MSU's coach challenges goalie interference. After review the goal is disallowed and Mavericks retain the lead
- About 20 seconds later Michigan Tech is called for a penalty, resulting in a power play for the Mavericks
- About 10 seconds after that Michigan Tech scores a shorthanded goal (and scored so quickly they didn't even have the goalie pulled yet) to tie the game
- About 15 seconds after that Minnesota State (still on the power play) scores to retake the lead at 3-2

I'm trying to figure out how Quinnipiac went from basically a D3 program to a team that has been in the D1 championship game three times in 10 years. It's a nice school and campus, but to be such a consistent power and eclipsing many of the traditional top tier teams seems like a fantasy. And yes, I'm jealous.

Easy. Only 60 D1 programs in the US. There is a ton of talent in Minnesota and the NE States and Canada. A whole lot of talent out there.

So any small school can become a power in college hockey with the right coach and talent evaluator.

Need more D1 programs. There is plenty of talent, more than enough to support significantly more programs at the D1 level.

I thought I heard Minot State (ND) might start a D1 program. I know Moorhead State had a committee look into it a few years ago.

Tennessee State hockey will have its inaugural season in 2024. It will start as a club-level program but aspires to achieve NCAA D I status for both men and women in the near future. There is no specific timeline for achieving varsity NCAA status.
