And yet, after getting embarrassed 38-0 at home, Weis picked up two more verbals, from 5-star WR Michael Floyd and 4-star RB Jonas Gray, who defected from Nebraska. This recruiting is unreal. They just keep coming

Its NOTRE DAME! They will always have an easy job recruiting. Just like Ohio State, USC, Michigan, etc.. Kids WANT to play for "big time" programs, even if they haven't had the best seasons in recent years.

But can they get a defense?

And will they stay?? Since 4 of Weis' first full class are already gone.

And since ND's classes, even under Willingham, were always in the top third of the country, why is ND playing in the bottom ten percent this season.

HA! Don't do it! I sent it to my B-I-L and got a 2 page response to why they are going to dominate in 2-4 years. It was as if I created that youtube video especially for him.

That's pretty funny.
Almost as funny as Notre Dames 1 - 7 record so far.

They already have a two 4 star LBs Steven Filer and Darius Fleming, a 4 star DB Robert Blanton, 4 star DT Sean Cwynar, 4 star DT Omar Hunter, and 5 star DE Ethan Johnson

I wouldn't go that far. Yes, Notre Dame is a "brand name" among college football teams, which makes it easier to recruit players than at schools such as Kentucky, Missouri, Oregon St., Illinois, Pitt and NC State. However, too many years of bad football will make it hard to recruit anywhere, even Notre Dame. The longer you're down, the harder it is to get up again. It can be done though, as proven at Oklahoma and USC.

As mentioned above, this class is stacked with defensive recruits (which Weis' first two classes were lacking).

Transfers are a natural thing when you have top players competing against each other. Players want to play today. It's nice to finally have the depth to have this problem.

ND's senior class has three contributing players (and seven overall). That is the result of Ty's recruiting and part of the reason why ND is awful this year.

But those are details you shouldn't concern yourself with. Ignorance is bliss. ND SUX!!1! Weis is FAT!

A look at the supposed 34th ranked recruiting class of 2004:

Terrail Lambert (starting CB)
Junior Jabbie (career backup tailback who left team and came back)
Anthony Vernaglia (career backup who started the season with first team as OLB. Lost job to true freshman).
Leo Ferrine (career backup who is 3rd team corner).
Darrin Bragg (career backup at QB, moved to receiver, quit team, came back as show team QB).
Justin Brown (career backup at DL who starts this year when healthy, but has high ankle sprain).
Darius Walker (two year starter, in NFL).
David Wolke (backup QB, transferred to Western Kentucky)
Maurice Crum (2nd year starter at LB).
Ronald Talley (backup DL who transferred to Delaware).
John Kadous (backup OL, who quit football still in school)
Abdel Banda (back problems forced him to give up football prior to sophomore season)
Brandon Nicholas (transferred to Colorado)
Chauncey Incarnato (transferred to Indiana because he couldn't play. Couldn't play there either, then transferred to a I-AA school where he is a backup).
Justin Hoskins (transferred to I-AA)
Christopher Vaughn (kicked out of school for legal troubles. Transferred to Louisville where he was subsequently kicked off team).
Tregg Duerson (son of famous alum Dave Duerson). Not offered by any other I-A program. Ended up leaving the team and staying in school. Scored his first career touchdown a couple of weeks ago as an intramural football player in interhall football.

So that is the current senior class.
Only the following guys still with the team:
QB Darrin Bragg
TB Junior Jabbie
DL Justin Brown
LB Anthony Vernaglia
LB Maurice Crum
CB Terrail Lambert
CB Leo Ferrine

As an addendum, how would you rate the class as it stands now?

Out of that group, only Brown, Crum and Lambert play many meaningful minutes.

A senior class should be counted on for much, much more than that, but as you can see they are pretty much non existent.

The junior class is not much better with a couple of guys no longer with the team and the '05 class' top rated player, D.J. Hord, coming off a ruptured achillies which is a career altering/ruining injury. The only other four star player in that class was Joey Hiben, who quit the team to concentrate on architecture, then transferred to Minnesota where he is currently a 3rd team walk-on defensive end.

Top players in the junior class are David Grimes (injured last three games), Pat Kuntz, Turkovich and David Bruton who is turning into an stellar Free Safety.

That is a big reason that there is so much parody in FBS football these days. Many kids are deciding between starting at a mid-major or competing for a starting position at a BCS school. Also, the kids that lose the competition for the starting spot will often transfer rather than sit on the bench.
I think ND will always be able to recruit, especially with the TV contract, but the difference between the best and 100th best recruiting class is not as big as it used to be.

Is Darius Walker actually in the NFL-who picked up that 5'9'' guy who is about as fast as me. Way to come out early and not get drafted.

Another year would not have improved his draft stock any and RB's have a short shelf life in the NFL, so in that regard it was a good call. But he's just not an NFL talent - enjoy your senior year in college and get a degree from Notre Dame. The price on that is undoubtedly way, way more than whatever he's currently pulling in

I dont think anyone was saying another year would improve his draft stock--I'm sure playing with this team wouldnt have helped. But I agree 100% enjoy your college experience and your senior year--you never get that back.

So how many more games do you guys think Notre Dame will win this year? I say 1, against either Duke or Navy.

They could win out. They have Navy, Air Force, Duke, at Stanford remaining on the schedule.
I am really hoping that they lose to Navy, that would be awesome.

Duke could beat Notre Dame this year. If Navy beats Notre Dame that would be the cherry on top. xthumbsupx
