....why is Bo Schembechler, he of the 2-6 Rose Bowl record and no national championships, so revered and Lloyd Carr, who has won a national championship, so ridiculed? Without Lloyd, the winningest football program of all time would not have a national championship in the modern era, yet Lloyd more than likely will resign under pressure this year. xconfusedx

As a Michigan fan I am a big fan of Lloyd Carr. I think a lot of Michigan fans are upset about the fact that every year we lose a game that we probably shouldn't. And don't assume that Lloyd is going to resign after this season, he is a very proud man & will go out on his own terms. Also don't forget Michigan can still run the table, beat Ohio St. & we are in yet another BCS bowl which would be 4 out of 5 years.

That's my point.....I would match Lloyd's record against Bo's, and Bo's wins were during a time frame when there wasn't much parity in the game (see Bo's last few years vs. his first 3-4 yrs)....yet Bo is a god, and Lloyd is one step ahead of the alumni trying to run him out of town.....

A lot has changed in the college landscape since Bo was coach. Back in the 70's & 80's Michigan fans were happy getting to the Rose Bowl year after year, now its win a championship year after year or you are out the door. I think if Bo was still the coach he would be feeling the same pressure as Lloyd.

I dont know much about their history but i think carr is a great coach and my guess would be that over his tenure he has averaged 10-2 which is pretty damn good

Without looking it up I think Bo did much better against Woody than Lloyd has against Tressel.

Carr is 6-6 vs. Ohio St., but only 1-5 vs. Jim Tressel, the lone win coming in 2003.

Bo was 11-9-1 against Ohio St. and 5-4-1 in games against Woody.

Perception vs Reality.....Perception wins everytime

I don't remember the end of Schembechler's tenure. Did he go out on top?
Most successful coaches become increasingly more revered years later. Also, Schembechler's personality was probably more endearing to the Michigan faithful.

Michigan lost to USC in the Rose Bowl in 1989 in Bo's final game, they finished 10-2 that year.

I agree with that. You can find that at alot of schools. Coaches can never measure up to that great coach from the past. That's what whoever follows Bobby B. and JoePa will go thru.
