I won't have time to do this weekly from here on out like I use to but will post my outlook for it at the end of the season. I don't have every name on the official list and also have some that are not on the STATS list.

FUBeAR doesn’t understand why someone - Mercer’s Devron Harper - with more Yards, more YPG, more ‘touches’ (60), and more TD’s than any of these others would not be included with the 5 WR’s on this list.

Anyone wanna ‘splain that one to FUBeAR?

More of an all-purpose guy who will be an All-American as an All-Purpose or RS and you already have a player on the offensive list. I only put 2 from one team on same award if they are among top 3-4 nationally at their main position. Harper's receiving stats aren't the same as the others. He does have a little better numbers than Princeton WR but that is a unique situation because Princeton's QB is awful. Iosivas is a NFL draft pick who would have 900+ yards by now if he had a QB like DeMorat, Payton, etc.

“Most outstanding offensive player” is the Payton Award criteria.

Not sure why we would remove returns from that. As soon as the Returner possesses the ball, he is an Offensive Player.

Even still, no way should Rushes/Rushing Yards/Rushing TD’s not be considered just because he’s listed as a WR. So, combining the Receptions & Carries (without the Returns stats) and he is right with this group in ‘touches’ and YPG, and still would top the list in TD’s.

”Already have a player on the list” - Huh? - Fordham, UIW, and NDSU have 2 Players on the list. Why would that even be ‘a thing?’

I am not Craig Haley but I treat this like I would if I were doing it officially and try to avoid 2 from a school unless they are top 5 nationally in stats or they are NFL draft picks like Mauch from NDSU or leading nationally at a main stat that gets votes for these awards like passing yards, receiving yards, receiving or rushing touchdowns, rushing yards, tackles for loss, sacks, etc. I would have overlooked the "two from a school rule" like with UIW and Fordham if he had been in the top 10 receiving. If he has a couple 100-yard, 1-2 TD type games the next two weeks I will add him on there. I know Harper is a really good player. He should be an All-American as an all-purpose player for sure.

Those of us in Commerce are pretty excited for a shot at UIW in 9 days, and we expect our boys to correct (2) UIW players on this list. TAMUC is undefeated in conference play with a win over Southeastern Louisiana, and so far this season the defense has allowed (1) 100 yard rusher and (1) 100 yard receiver. UIW’s stars look impressive, but they will need to earn it in Commerce.

Additionally, we have our own star WR, and we expect to see him on this list for a long time. He is 6-6 and a sophomore, so he has plenty of opportunities for this award.

UIW’s stars look impressive, but they will need to earn it in Commerce.

Additionally, we have our own star WR, and we expect to see him on this list for a long time. He is 6-6 and a sophomore, so he has plenty of opportunities for this award.

I put him on the list and then when I showed what my top 10 would look like I had him there as well. He is a sophomore based on COVID rules but normally he would be a junior. I fully expect him to be on NFL watch lists next year and have a shot to come out after the 2023 season. It will be interesting to see if his grades are high enough that he just plays one more year or not. He is fun to watch on film. He has good hands and uses his size well. He is having the best year of any WR in FCS right now.

Looking at the YSU raw raw board they want to hand Jaleel McLaughlin the Payton for being the all time rushing, TD, carries and YDS per carry leader in NCAA history.

He did have an awesome year and an amazing career. Is this enough to give him the Payton..

No homer vote here I'd vote for him. By far the MVP on YSUs team with great numbers against stiff competition in the MVFC.

He is fun to watch. I could see him being in the top 3 for sure.

Shout out to my guy Cody Mauch... I have to think 8th is about as high as an o-lineman has ever finished in the Payton Award voting. Not bad for a former walk-on from a farm near tiny Hankinson, ND (population 900).

I think they have a list of 30 players on the ballot and voters vote for their top 5 so those were the ones who didn't appear on any ballots.

Don't you try to take my T-27th in Walter Payton voting away from me, PC! Never mind I left school almost 20 years ago and wasn't associated with a college FB team by more than being a fan. I may even have a T-shirt printed!

Not sure the year, but it was the season that Briscoe won it and was playing injured when JMU boat-raced us. When they announced the winner, the boos were almost as loud as the applause. Totally classless.

Edit: I'm wrong. It was 2017. The year we got boat-raced by you guys on your way to beating JMU in Frisco.
